DAY 4 (afternoon) Complex Population: 32 At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom. "Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level." Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need. As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in. Are we gonna keep talking about renaming people and what happened at the last trial, or are we gonna figure out what to do today? Time's not exactly on our side here and we don't have any real leads.

The truth is, we're blindly guessing, though. Correct? But as long as we keep discussing who might be Staff, we still do have a few hours to go.

At this point, we're pretty much blindly guessing on who might be staff, too. We're working on pretty vague terms and some real loose sense of trust.

[what is trust even, alvin doesn't know. so instead, he sighs.]

I want to find out who the staff is in our numbers too, but if we don't start working on a plan, and putting some pieces together, we're going to be in last week's bind all over again.

We can't abstain again. It's very likely that the odds will be skewed to favor an innocent being executed if we do that.

But we can't just point fingers, either. We're between a rock and a hard place.

I don't think we should focus on leads, at least not in the traditional sense. The killers aren't leaving much evidence behind for us to look at, so I think we need to analyze more untraditional signs.

Like what the motive of the staff members is. Why Rayfa, who never really talked with anyone, as opposed to someone more proactive? Would the staff members be proactive in discussion, or stay to the background?

I meant it, you know, a general sense. A lead on what the hell we should actually do instead of all the crap that's not helping us at all.

Who the hell knows? For all we know, they killed her because they weren't getting any "results" from whatever we're doing. [since hardly anyone spoke to her? he's just throwing ideas out into the wind.] As long as we start talking about it, we might find we're someone's slipping up, right?

The way I see it, we have a couple of options for deciding how we might vote.

Number one! We go with the theory that the victims so far have been kids because the killer isn't big or strong enough to take down anyone bigger, and we make a list of anyone small and frail enough to fit that bill and vote from that.

Number two! We assume that since the killer - or killers - have been taking the ankle monitors because they want to try to do something with them, they're working with at least one person with enough technical knowledge to be able to figure them out, and we vote from the list of people who do have that knowledge because they might be part of that group even if they haven't killed anyone yet.

Number three! We ask Franzy who she's narrowed her list down to, since she brought up the theory that someone who supported voting for Diva early on might have been a staff member trying to throw us off.

Or number four, we all just sort of do whatever, and probably someone innocent ends up dead as a result.

I think we should go with whatever option is most likely to have us vote for a real staff member. I want to see whoever's doing this to us suffer tonight.

I don't like number two because it's biased because you're all old and no one likes me.

Honestly...those all sound pretty reasonable, actually.

I'm impressed. But in that case, we have to decide together, or we'll just end up with a mish-mash of useless votes.

Yeah. I'm not sure which one I believe, but I just want to find an actual staff member this time so we can make them pay.

I think number one is flawed. It seems implied that we have multiple staff members. Unless all of the staff members are young and frail, it feels too hasty to make a judgment off only two bodies.

Number two might be a better route, though I kinda hate to admit it since I'd probably be on a shortlist of tinkerers. It'd be a more secure route if we knew why they prioritize the monitors, but that's something we can only speculate on.

Looking at the people who pushed Diva's execution also sounds good to me, perhaps as a starting point if nothing else.

Oh, sorry - I just meant, whoever killed this time or last time! We can focus on trying to find this killer based on what the choice of victim might mean, or we can try and focus on other ways of picking a staff member.

[Alice shrugs. There's not really any way for them to know until they get the results of the vote, is there...]

So either two or three, then? We can start with whichever option gets the most support and work from there.

Yeah, another tinkerer here, and-- And I mean, not saying that isn't a super viable theory but also asking we, uh, shelve that on until we know more, maybe? Since, hell, we don't even know for sure that's what they're doing.

I admit to being biased here, but if we're considering option two — we should also consider that some may not be disclosing their full list of skills. Rhys, Jack and I may not be the only ones with that type of knowledge here.

I won't stop anyone if they wish to go with that theory, however. It is a plausible lead, after all... And we have nothing but our word to defend ourselves.

Number one would assume that there is only one staff member, correct? I feel the odds of that not being true are lesser...and I'm not saying that because of my size. As a few of the men here can tell you, I am perfectly capable of disabling people bigger than me.

I'd like to hear whom that woman has narrowed her list down to regardless, for number three, and then we can consider the other options...?

Number one would mean we just focus on trying to find this killer or last time's killer based on what the choice of victim tells us, as opposed to following other leads. We only have so much time, so...

One or two sounds best to me. Not that the lovely Franziska doesn't have good points, I'm sure—but taking one person's word for it didn't really help us a couple of days ago. We could be sinking ourselves just as bad as option four.

Have I asked anyone to take my word for it? Have I not laid out my points in a logical fashion? But options one and two are acceptable to me.

So... hmmm, what should we do? Ask all the people who would be implicated under those options to defend themselves?

We could see if they make any obvious slip-ups... and hearing them talk could help us decide how to vote.

I agree. Just because someone is confident doesn't make what they say more true. Assuming she isn't staff, she knows the same as any of us.

I won't narrow down my list to one person. After all, that is the basis on which I'm suggesting staff influence the vote. But each of your methods are perfectly logical.

As for who I've narrowed my suspicions down to, based on Diva, that would be Elizabeth, Lara Croft, Luke Castellan.

I think it'd be helpful if you explained your reasoning for each of the individuals so we can actually understand.

What happened to Bigby? Why Lara and Luke specifically? I still don't see anything pointing to them.
