trial #2

DAY 4 (afternoon)
Complex Population: 32

At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom.

"Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level."

Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need.

As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in.

You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is.

You mean Leo? The one with the glasses? He was the one who brought up how he saw Diva hit Charles.

[They haven't pressed him yet, that's for sure.]

Yeah, nobody even bat an eye at that before now, did they?

To be completely fair, he only brought it up after I asked if anyone had any guesses, so it's not like it came completely out of the blue. He wasn't even the first person to accuse someone. He was just the first person to accuse anyone who had anything to back his guess up.

Not completely out of the blue, I'd guess that it makes more sense to wait for an opportunity to say something like that to divert suspicion than to just say it completely unprompted.

That's true, but we're only looking at it like it's suspicious now because we know she wasn't the killer. If you'd seen Diva hitting Charles, can you really say you wouldn't have brought it up? Because seeing someone hurting someone who showed up dead later is suspicious.

I mean, I would have brought it up myself if I saw it. I think anyone here would have.

You're not wrong about that—it's not completely incriminating. But they say hindsight's 20/20 for a reason. There's probably a pretty even split possibility that it could be one thing or the other.

Even if it's true, it doesn't mean that whoever killed Charles is the same one who killed Rayfa, so it may not even matter even if that was the case the other day. [not for figuring out who the guilty party is this time at least, even though they need their comeuppance too.]

If it's that close a split, we might as well just flip a coin to decide. They're really not making this trial thing easy, are they?

[SIGHS.]

We may as well poll everyone whenever we're close to time out.

That's not a bad idea. ♡

I'd barely even consider something like this a trial, no matter that Judy tells us it is.

Maybe next time, we should try turning it into a real trial... somehow.

[They already have a prosecutor. Who wants to play defense attorney??]

[not alvin, that's for sure.]

Can we even do something like that without evidence or real suspects?

[personal profile] selfsufficiency 2016-10-16 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Not really, but... maybe we could try and make it a little more structured. I can't say I've ever been on trial, though, so I'm not sure exactly how it would work.

[BIG SHRUG.]

I haven't seen a real trial like that since I was a kid, so I dunno either. I guess if we wanted to give it a go, we'd have to ask Franzis—Prosecutor von Karma.

[intentionally changes his course just in case franziska decides she wants a second chance to kick him.]

I disagree with Leo Baskerville for exactly that reason. Yes, he brought up the candlestick. But the staff didn't need Diva to be accused. They needed to wait for anyone to be accused who wasn't one of their number. Leo Baskerville was merely the first to make any sort of accusation.

I do think it interesting, the sudden shift towards Leo Baskerville. Even from someone who was initially hesitant to name names. Don't you?
selfsufficiency: (but just another target)

Interesting, but... maybe not suspicious. It's hard to say.

We're running low on time, so I think people are getting desperate again. ♡

I explained my actions. I would have never pointed a finger at Diva without reason to, and if there was a trail to investigate, I wanted to do so. I want the truth. I specifically said I do not want to point a finger at Leo, and I do not believe him to the perpetrator, only someone who spoke up out of a desire to help.
