trial #2

DAY 4 (afternoon)
Complex Population: 32

At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom.

"Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level."

Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need.

As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in.

You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is.

Do you mind explaining what narrowed it down to those three? Beyond Diva? Or was it simply that?

[ just so she's up to date on Everything even though she is still. letting alice decide shit. ]
karmas: (a: morose)

[personal profile] karmas 2016-10-15 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It was simply that. I believe one of the ones involved with Diva, particularly at the very beginning when Leo Baskerville raised the candlestick assault, is likely staff. Of the ones there, I ruled out Leo Baskerville for being too obvious, Bigby Wolff for being dragged into it by others, and Alice and Adam Parrish based on other actions of theirs that make them appear less suspicious.

Remaining are Lara Croft, Elizabeth, and Luke Castellan, who were all involved with accusing Diva.

The only oddity I can think of myself is the illness that may or may not be connected to the fountain. When exactly did Luke get sick...? Lara already said she was in the fountain with no ill effects, but Luke got sick after that fact...

[ ... ]

Of course, it could be an ordinary illness. But with all of us sharing such close quarters, it's odd it hasn't spread.

[ ... ]

This might not be helpful at all after all. However, I will concur that Alice wouldn't have bothered arguing with me so much if she wanted people to vote wrong...

I don't know how the illness fits in...So I won't base my deductions on it.

Wait, what? Lara was in the fountain, but didn't get sick?

[Huh.]

Interesting. So I guess this rules out the fountain being the cause of the illness. The foot must be the cause.
liven: (CONSIDER ► it could be that.)

[personal profile] liven 2016-10-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
However, only Alice and I investigated that, to my knowledge. When would Luke have gotten sick?
selfdenying: (like a girl changes clothes)

[personal profile] selfdenying 2016-10-15 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the question. If the foot is indeed the cause, did Luke have access to it during the time it went missing...?
liven: plz don't take this one (DEADPAN ► and then he died.)

[personal profile] liven 2016-10-15 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[ A SHRUG. she likes luke but feels no real loyalty to anyone save alice since alice. is her ticket to a bed. ]

I couldn't say. As Franziska said, there's no way to know if people being ill is relevant at all. If it is, isn't that odd that it would come up like that...?

[ shijima pick a fucking side ]

It is odd. Alice and Luke are the only two who are sick in a place that seems, to pick a word, "sterile". Even the plants aren't real in the promenade. There's a disconcerting lack of...well, life besides all of us.

[Hmm.]

Of course, it could be a latent thing, but it seems odd how quickly it cropped up, and how strangely non-contagious it is from person to person.

Considering we've been sharing a room with Alice with none of us getting sick at all ever since she did, I found it strange myself.
chiseler: (nothing left to lose)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-10-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The foot was found in the fountain the day after the trial, right? I got sick before Alice touched it.
selfdenying: (and you overthink)

[personal profile] selfdenying 2016-10-15 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The foot was missing for a day, however. We don't know where it was during that time.
chiseler: (it was really only you)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-10-15 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you trying to imply I would actually take the time to hide a severed foot and then dump it in the water? [He's not really mad. He's frustrated. He's frustrated he keeps having to defend himself when he still kind of feels like garbage, kids are dying, they're no closer to solving anything and Franziska sure did make him feel stupid? He hates that. He hates not having answers and so he just sort of snarls instead.]

A cold isn't exactly something that would normally bother someone like me. Being here might've taken down some of my immune system but not all of it, could be why the effect was slow. I don't know. Could be the foot for Alice, could be I was in the water for a while and also in wet clothes for a while. If you're going to use that as basis for "I might be staff and might have decided to kill a child because I felt like it" then go ahead.

Calm down, Luke. I am not accusing you of anything. I never said that you picked up the foot or was responsible in severing it. I'm merely trying to reason through it and find out how you got sick if it wasn't for touching the foot like Alice did.

[It is a rather sudden defensive response to something that wasn't even an accusation, and Alfendi takes a mental note of that.]

It could be a latent thing. And we'd need to do experiments to fully rule out the water. It's just conjecture at this point.
liven: (EXPLAIN ► here we go bro.)

[personal profile] liven 2016-10-15 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything we have is conjecture...snapping at people certainly doesn't help explain anything away.
chiseler: (another breaking news blowout)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-10-15 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Easy for you to say, buddy, you don't have Prosecutor Von Crazypants listing you as a suspect because you happened to jump in to help an interrogation. Regardless he does seem to settle down even if he looks extremely unhappy.]

...truthfully? My only guess is the water and how much of it was exposed to me. I mean you were there, too. You saw me hit it pretty hard, I might've swallowed some of it or something. [Just as a reminder.] Like I said, back where I'm from I've built up immunity to some things. Being here...nothing works the way it should, so it doesn't surprise me. I had a broken nose to worry about. A cold was sort of on the backburner even when I started feeling worse. You can ask Adam, he had to pretty much drag me up the stairs back to my room after the trial was over and he set my nose.
