DAY TWO (morning)
 Complex Population: 34 It's 8AM, and rather than waking naturally, you awake to the sound of an odd tone ringing through the intercom. As you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always, Judy's voice speaks up a few moments after. "A death has occurred. Safety Protocol 6227-A is now in effect. Protocol now available on Complex terminals." That ominous message might prompt you to leave your room more quickly. You can check out the terminal, where a new file is available, but as you head into the atrium, you might notice something else. The viewing stage is open. It seems that someone was busy during the night. This post is for the second day as defined in the schedule. initial discovery
[If the state of Charles's body is any indication, anyway... Alice comes to peer through the window, her eyes resting on the corpse for a few moments before she turns her attention to Alfendi.]

[He grimaces, his hand tightening into a fist at his side. He swallows - he feels like there's lead in his stomach, and it almost feels like he's going to fall apart. What's wrong with him? Is he sick? It's hard for him to even speak.]
Ugh...no, that's what's odd. I mean, I can't say I've seen anything like this but...I don't know what's going on with me...

[But, huh, this is a pretty different reaction... The dead body itself doesn't bother Alice much - she's seen enough corpses in her lifetime - but she expects more crying from people who aren't used to it. Maybe even a little throwing up... Alfendi's reaction is neither as dramatic as someone who's not used to murder nor is it as blasé as someone who is. Kind of middle-of-the-road, if she's being honest. That doesn't mean it won't get worse, though.]
If you're going to throw up, make sure you're not looking in my direction when you do!

[Her statement annoys him - how can she not see that this is more than just a nauseous reaction to a dead body? He feels completely unlike himself, and it's infuriating, to say the least.]

[He's staring at her as if she's a total and utter stranger.]

[Unfortunately, she's really not the type to be worried about such a bizarre shift in behavior for the other person's sake. It's intriguing, and she wants to see where this goes before deciding if it's something she actually needs to worry about.]

I was just talking to a man about who killed that boy down there, and...well, you certainly aren't that man, unless he somehow has the dumb power to turn into a young girl.
[He lets out a frustrated growl.] ...Is there something wrong with my head?! Did the idiotic kidnappers of this place do something to me?

[In other words, no, that man he was talking to certainly does not have the power to transform himself into a young girl.]
It's possible. They did something to all of us when they brought us here... maybe you didn't take to it the same way. Or maybe you struggled and hit your head or something when they were taking you.
[She smiles and gestures in the direction of the room Charles's corpse was found in.]
None of that looks familiar to you? [And then she waves a hand to indicate the rest of the complex.] And none of this, either? We've been here for a little while now.

[He lets out a scoff, like it's the stupidest idea he's ever heard.]
That's what the man said...that I've been here for "days", but that's a lie. It has to be. I only just woke up in this room a while ago out of the blue, and yet people keep insisting that I should know what the bloody hell is going on!

But if you didn't fall, then maybe someone pushed you. [She cuts her eyes at Charles's corpse through the glass, then points.] Obviously someone here doesn't have any problem with violence. Maybe you got attacked, too.
[Or maybe he's just nuts. Who knows? Not her. Who cares? ...also not her.]
Most of us woke up out of the blue in the cafeteria, not this room! And if it wasn't you we were talking to, it was someone who looked a lot like you... how strange.
[She says "strange" like it means "intriguing".]
The person I was talking to who looked like you was named Alfendi Layton. So what's your name, then?

[He clutches the side of his head. What's going on? His head does hurt, but it's just an ache, it's hardly because of a wound. He would know if he was wounded...right?]
There's a cafeteria? I thought this was some kind of hospital, though...hospitals can have cafeterias... [He's only seen the operating room so far, it's hardly a lot to go on. Her question though, makes him grit his teeth in irritation.]
What do you mean, "someone who looked a lot like me"? I'm Alfendi Layton, the one and only! What kind of idiocy are you blabbering about? I've never met you before!

[But fine, she'll drop it for now... if only because she's actually really amused by him telling her to shut up. He's got more of a backbone after he's been feeling ill, it seems.
Or maybe he's just grouchy? That's understandable.]
They've been calling this place "The Complex". There's a bunch of apartments where we're all supposed to be sleeping, a room with games, and a room to work out in, too. But it doesn't seem like they have anything else that would go in a hospital.
[She barely bats an eyelash at his outburst.]
Then I guess I was talking to your evil twin.
[Or is he the evil twin? ...he's probably the evil twin.]
All I know is, that's the name the person I was talking to gave me.

[He's the maximum level of grouchy right now.]
Oh, that's a real nice joke. Ha ha...but I'm not laughing. There's only one of me, and there will only ever be one of me, and if I have to hear one more time about some absolute dim-witted theory of another me going around, I'll feed someone their own tongue so they can choke on it, do you understand?
[MAYBE NOT THE BEST THING TO SAY WITH A DEAD BODY IN THE OTHER ROOM, ALFENDI]

Maybe we are. [She snaps her fingers to get his attention, then points down at the monitors on their ankles.] I mean... they put those on us, after all.
[There was probably a more gentle way of saying that, but gentle isn't really Alice's style.]

[He's just shooting daggers everywhere with his glare, like he can just somehow carve out an exit with his gaze alone.]

[Alfendi seems like less of a dud now than he did before... If he's this abrasive around others, he's bound to have accumulated enemies of some kind. But that raises the question - what's with how he acted so nice the day before?

[Including everyone's reactions to the death of a child, apparently. To be totally fair, there's been significantly less shrieking and crying than she's used to. This place really is full of interesting people...]

[A sudden wave of nausea hits him - he lets out a cough, sweat starting to bead on his forehead.]

[His straight posture instantly worsens, his shoulders hunching over, and the sudden fury in his eyes is just...gone. Only a very tired look remains - Alfendi blinks in surprise, like he's been startled out of a sudden daydream.]
...Oh...oh dear, what happened? [He looks down at Alice with a slight double-take, like she's just appeared out of thin air.]
Oh, Alice, hello there. [He says, his eyebrows furrowing together.] I...goodness, did I just faint for a minute, there?

Alice will have to think back over their conversations to try and figure out what might have prompted the change - for now, though, she's just going to see how this goes. She can't help but wonder if perhaps he just has much more extensive memory problems than the rest of them...
But, no. He says her name, and she smiles. So it's not that.
