DAY NINE

DAY 9
Complex Population: 18

It's 8AM, and you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always.

There's breakfast available in the cafeteria if you want it, as well as meals from 11AM-12PM and 7PM-8PM, but otherwise? The day is yours. Take your time to explore the complex, relax, and enjoy each others' company, as who knows what the next day has in store?

Though as you explore, you may notice that there's a few new doors unlocked and a new place for you to spend the day. Behind one door, you'll find a neat, tidy classroom. Like the Media Lab, none of the textbooks seem to cover anything past the 1940s, but if you'd like to do arts and crafts, the supply closet may be your place to spend the day. Across the walkway, there's also a small garden for growing fresh vegetables, so maybe you can finally be somewhat free of canned food.

For once, there's nothing amiss about the Complex.

This post is for the first day as defined in the schedule. This post is for general mingling and CR buidling, and will not include significant plot interaction.

Atrium - Early Morning;
[After talking to Judy at one of the terminals, Alice figures she should probably share what she's learned with the others, so she'll linger in the atrium where she can see people coming and going and will clap her hands to get people's attention as they walk by.]

Hey, did you notice anything unusual about the voting results yesterday?

Classroom - Morning;
[And now, time to explore! Alice is feeling much better today than she has since coming into contact with the fountain water - it looks like enough time has passed that whatever caused it has cleared up. She's fine with that. She'll just avoid the fountain water as best she can from on...

It's with renewed vigor that she heads up the stairs to check out what doors might have unlocked! ...and, hey, it's a classroom. She doesn't seem all that surprised at the setup - one-room classrooms are pretty common where she comes from - and she'll start poking around, thumbing through the textbooks and then raiding the supply closet for paper and pencils.

If you happen upon her while she's stockpiling them, she'll gather them into her arms and shoot you a suspicious look.]

What are you looking at?

Indoor Garden - Afternoon;
[FRESH FOOD, PARTY TIME.

...which is to say, Alice is harvesting vegetables, because there's no way she's going to pass up getting to eat something that doesn't come from a can. She has a feeling that if she comes back tomorrow, someone else will have emptied the garden first.

She won't take everything - on the off-chance she's wrong, she'd like to be able to come back and get more in the future. But she is going for enough to make a decent meal. When she hears footsteps, she speaks without bothering to look from where she's pulling up a carrot.]

If you help me gather these, I'll cook dinner tonight.

Community Kitchen - Evening;
[Anyone coming into the kitchen around dinnertime will find Alice tending to a pair of pots on the stove. They're both simmering nicely, though the one on the left certainly smells a lot better. On the counter there's a half-empty can of evaporated milk, an empty tin of canned beef, and the remains of chopped and peeled vegetables which are most likely the ones she harvested from the garden earlier that afternoon.

The pot on the left seems to have some kind of a creamy vegetable stew - the one on the right is the canned meat, cooking in a vegetable broth for flavor. She doesn't really want to combine them in a single pot in case the canned meat's flavor throws off the flavor of the fresh vegetables, but it can be added to individual bowls to try it, and then left out if it turns out bad.

To anyone who comes in, she'll say the same thing initially - ]

The food's almost ready.

[Then she'll turn away from the stove to face her company. If it's someone who helped her harvest vegetables, one of her apartmentmates, or Elizabeth or Angel, they'll be treated to a smile.]

Grab a bowl and help yourself once it's done.

[If it's anyone else, though - ]

You can have some if you do the dishes so I don't have to.

Are we certain that these are even safe to eat...?

[THE REAL QS. Though he supposes that murder here does tend to follow certain protocols...

He'll stoop down in any case, peering over the rows of vegetables before digging in to root up another carrot. Fresh food is really tempting okay IT'S REALLY TEMPTING.]

If you're worried about it, we can feed them to someone we don't like first to check out.

[But with such a wealth of other ways to kill people in this place, Alice sort of doubts they're going to have to rely on poisoning a bunch of plants which haven't even been harvested yet to kill them off.]
modissty: (well okay)

[personal profile] modissty 2016-11-02 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
[OH, ALICE. Just as Alice-y as usual...]

I don't think I'd like a second person's blood on my hands.

[Or poison vomit, either or... ANYWAY, on a lighter note with less murder:]

What sort of vegetables do you need for what you're making?

[look........ it would be boring if she wasn't]

If these things are poisoned, someone's bound to keel over from them eventually. If we feed them to someone, at least we stand a chance of getting something out of it.

[If making someone a taste-tester to check for poison counts as murder, anyway. Would they both get memories back if they collaborated on it? A Mystery.]

I can make any of these vegetables work, probably. But the heartier the better. Potatoes, carrots... onions would be good too.
modissty: (far off)

[Alice no, Alice stop, ALICE CALM DOWN. Sakyou just politely won't comment on her plant-based schemes, focusing instead on harvesting a couple more carrots. He's no farmer Enishi, but there's something soothing about a simple task like this.]

I think I saw sprouts over to the left that might be leeks. Would you like any of those?
selfsufficiency: (but just another target)

[personal profile] selfsufficiency 2016-11-03 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
[can't stop won't stop]

Leeks? [She pauses to think about it, then nods.] Yeah. Those will work. Do you like them?
modissty: (he's not even the shoujo route)

[personal profile] modissty 2016-11-03 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
I guess you could say that I find them a little nostalgic. The flavor is nice, anyway - more mellow than onions.

[Up another couple of carrots come, and then Sakyou shifts to stand, dusting dirt from his palms.]

I'll get a few of those, then.
selfsufficiency: (speak up bro i can't hear you)

[personal profile] selfsufficiency 2016-11-03 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nostalgic leeks? Alice doesn't really get it, but she nods and moves to start harvesting some potatoes.]

A mellow flavor will work well. I think I saw canned milk in the kitchens, so if it's still there, I'll be able to make a creamy stew.

[The leeks would be better in that case, probably.]
modissty: (makin everyone pretty)

[personal profile] modissty 2016-11-04 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
After so many weeks of the other canned foods, something like that sounds incredible.

[NECTAR OF THE GODS... Even if it's just a stew with some weird biodome veggies and canned milk.

Sakyou moves over to harvest some leeks after that, though, working pretty efficiently.]
selfsufficiency: (i will wipe you the fuck out)

[personal profile] selfsufficiency 2016-11-04 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Weird potentially poisonous biodome veggies and canned milk... what a way to go.]

It'll be good. I'm not a terrible cook.

[Decus is probably better at it, though, since she usually orders him around. But he's not here right now, so she'll just have to work this out for herself.]
