DAY 6 (afternoon)

At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom.

"Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level."

Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need.

As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in.

You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is.

Alice, can you expand on where your suspicions stand?

[ Elizabeth is truly curious. Not that this is payback for suggestion she strip, nbd. ]

I've actually been suspicious of him since the first death.

[She shrugs lightly.]

You know when we first got here and we were looking around? I went to the apartment he was in because I heard my name get called twice before I knew there were two of us. Cici was in there, and he was super adamant that he was going to get the bed.

...but after Charles turned up dead, Cici said that Charles was the one who slept in the bed the first night. It's a petty reason to kill someone, but I've seen people killed for pettier.

He's also... well, you heard him, didn't you? The first trial, he pointed fingers pretty fast. He also seems like he's really careful to contribute but not contribute too much. He shares opinions sometimes, but not too much. He's trying a little too hard not to stand out.

And then, earlier, when we started talking about suspects, he distracted us all by having us check for injuries. It was pretty subtle, but it was the same kind of distraction we thought that staff members might be doing to throw us off the scent.

I'll admit, you raise a good point. Not about the bed, but the injury thing. And we know from Luke that staff members kill individually. He might have gone after Charles himself.

It's a possibility.

I wouldn't put it past him to have gone after Charles. ♡ That's part of what makes Cici so interesting.

I don't want to send a kid to take the fall for this, but Alice raises some good points. I'm not to say I don't have my suspicions over everyone, but Veronica... do you think it's possible?

[ She hasn't really encountered kids who were scientists or willing to kill. ]

The only thing I don't really connect with is the bed - but... I wasn't there.

I like to think we aren't petty enough to kill over beds, staff or not. Ciel didn't seem pleased with sharing the room with others, and I would agree he's a sharp witted kid.

There's not much else I can say honestly. But... anyone here can be staff. Even children, awful as it may seem.

I told you Charles was asleep in the bed, and if anyone is suspicious about it being stolen, you can just tell them what you told me.

If anyone has been suspicious, it's you and Shijima. Neither of you have had any qualms about killing, and neither of you seem affected by all of these deaths, and both of you agree. You could easily be staff working together.

[Alice looks supremely unbothered, which kind of proves Ciel's point, huh.]

Shijima only agrees with me because I made a trade with her, and that's never been a secret. I mean, you can believe whatever you want, but I'm not a staff member and neither is she. If we were, we'd know better than to be so obvious about it, you know?

But you... you've been trying really hard not to be too conspicuous or too inconspicuous.

That's ridiculous. I'm not an idiot. If you listen and watch instead of being chatty, you can learn a lot.

None of my actions or reasonings have been suspicious. I never blamed anyone for a crime, and I abstained both trials. I am only supplying options that may help us find staff members.

You seem to be eager to blame me without solid evidence of anything. What are you trying to hide?

If I'm wrong, then I fully expect people to turn on me. But the way you've acted so far makes me suspicious, so it can't be helped. There's no point in keeping quiet about my suspicions now when there's a very real chance you might be a staff member.

But Alice and Shijima are - [flip flip go the pages of the notebook] - too obvious. Plus, both showed genuine concern for Bigby when he was wounded, and unless all three of them are staff members, which I think is highly unlikely, they would have no reason to try to take care of someone who they're actively going against.

[She deadeyes the notebook.]

I know you're trying to help, but that kind of makes me mad. If the other you comes back, can I hit him for writing that?

We just have to figure out which ones are probable.

You all are idiots. Tbey have plenty of reason to help someone they plan to kill anyway. That is the point.

You wouldn't suspect them if they seemed caring and concerned.

So what is it? Trust those who are too obvious, or trust those who aren't obvious at all? Make up your mind, moron.

You can't know is the problem I am arguing, but I never said you should trust the people who aren't obvious. All of my assumptions have been based on what I have seen an heard--the people who are the most obvious.

That's a little odd, don't you think? Those two are joined at the hip both in public and I'm assuming in the privacy of their apartment.

While Shijima has gotten derailed over silly names, she has helped me and others multiple times. Alice has also been willing to put her credibility on the line by throwing theories out and pressing harder issues. If they were staff... That could be what they want you to think. Of course you wouldn't believe staff to be together so closely, so their plan would work.

I think it's suspicious. Luke and Adam were together, and it turned out Luke had been a staff member.

I don't feel a revenge kill is unreasonable, especially if the staff can be blamed for it.

I agree it's possible von Karma was targeted because the staff wanted revenge, but that doesn't mean Parrish is guilty.

Any staff member would have wanted her dead as retaliation for starting what led to Castellan's death
