trial #3

DAY 6 (afternoon)
Complex Population: 27

At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom.

"Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level."

Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need.

As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in.

You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is.

[Alice claps her hands to get everyone's attention. Which is actually kind of amusing to watch, seeing as she's dizzy and trying not to fall over while also lugging Leo around on her back.]

Okay, everyone! You all heard Judy, right? She'll tell us the names of people who voted, but she'll only reveal who voted for a single choice.

So... since someone isn't telling the truth about abstaining, do we want to ask her about that?

Hey. Listen to me here for a second.

[Dojima plays with his lighter, this is going to be fun]

If we ask for who voted Abstain, we'll get three names and know who is a liar. That's pretty much a safe bet. There's another option, too.

But there's something else we can do: ask who voted for Lara. Not only we'd get eight names to deal with, and a reference for future trials if more people die. It's not guaranteed we'd get one of the four who supposedly abstained in that list, but if it's a staff member it's possible their name would appear there too. It's a risk I'd be personally be willing to take.

Besides, in the future we could have the option to ask who voted abstain in the second trial, wouldn't we? Someone should check with Judy.

[Which he will, in a moment]

We should consider what we'll do in future trials too.

It works both ways, though. We can ask about who abstained now so we know who's lying to us today, and we can ask about who voted for Lara later.

I'd rather have a known liar than risk getting the name of someone who was just misled by Franzy last time, you know? Choosing from eight people still poses a risk.

I have no problem with either option, but I vote for who abstained because I have nothing to hide.

If I get a vote, I mean.

[Judy broadcasted as an answer "I would be willing to offer it in future trials, but that is my choice. I will make a decision based on this exercise." After that is said, Dojima nods]

That's certainly something to remember, too. I agree with finding out who abstained, then.

I guess 100% chance is better than less than 100%, since there may not be a chance to find out votes in the future.

[So yeah, find out who abstained, please!]

I would say Luke has similar good reason. Like I said, the likelihood of a staff being on that list is small.

That said, I think abstain is best to immediately root out the liar.

I have nothing to hide. Go ahead.

We should.

[It makes sense, and it's all they have to go off right now.]

It'll allow us to question the one who is lying about their vote, if nothing else.
selfsufficiency: (i will wipe you the fuck out)

[ he can't help you if you fall over, Alice! ]

I got nothing to hide with what I voted, so. Yeah. It's something to go off of.

[SHE'S TRYING REAL HARD NOT TO FALL OVER]

Good, I knew you'd agree.

[She trusted him! Good to know that trust wasn't unfounded.]

Oh, seriously? Sweet.

[ Jack didn't expect this to actually work, so he snickers and then nods. ]

Then, yeah, let's see about the abstains, sure.

Sounds like a good idea among the sea of bad ones.

[personal profile] toyotamane 2016-10-22 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, why not. You're just full of good ideas lately.

[Dripping with sarcasm (and snot), but as mad as he is about the bloody pool party, Alice has a lead.

Damn brat.

That was an accident.

[Sniff! HE REFUSES TO GIVE ALICE CREDIT FOR ANY CUNNING MOVES.]

Woulda been great if it was just Alfendi who went for a nice swim.

[IN BLOOD!!!!!]

I agree with Alice. It was a great idea.

[HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED BUT...STILL]

Someone sounds bitter. I'd like to think it's karma, old man.
toyotamane: ([raided a gas station to get this style])

[personal profile] toyotamane 2016-10-22 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Karma for what? All I did was make sure you didn't get your damn eyes clawed out.

[Because he's like, ninety percent sure Alfendi would've lost, okay.

Alice hits harder than she looks for her size!
]

Besides, don't act like you were in on it. Unless you're done pretending you didn't know what that was all about.
selfdenying: (you're in then you're out)

[personal profile] selfdenying 2016-10-22 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Karma for you trying to be a smartass.

[like the alamo..........rude alfendi remembers.............]

Pretending? Look, old man, I don't know what the hell I was doing. If this nonsense about another personality thing is true, why don't you ask him, huh?
toyotamane: ([aint that something])

[personal profile] toyotamane 2016-10-23 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
My apologies for hurting your feelings. I didn't know you had any, my mistake.

[PROVING ALFENDI'S POINT BUT OKAY. Just throw the whole Alamo at him it's fine.

Sniff. Dickson rubs at his nose.
]

What, you guys don't share your grudges? Go on then, bring him out. We're all dyin' to know what's eatin' him.

[ha ha ha, dying. Tasteful joke, that.]

[personal profile] mansplains 2016-10-22 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh---- do you want me to carry him? [because you sure are having problems, Alice]

Either who abstained or whoever voted for Lara. Unless they're every man or woman for themselves, I can't see any of the staff voting for Luke. But someone's lying about their vote, so we can catch them if we pick abstain.

[they don't really have any other leads, honestly]
