trial #2

DAY 4 (afternoon)
Complex Population: 32

At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom.

"Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level."

Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need.

As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in.

You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is.

I don't believe there's a "best" option in this scenario, but as far as I'm aware— We've discussed several options so far. Please, correct me if I've missed any.

There are those who have suggested Leo, due to his involvement in Diva's trial. Franziska has also suggested Elizabeth, Lara, and... you, Luke, as possible members of the staff. [She is not too endeared to any of those suggestions, but.] I believe it was also suggested that an individual skilled with computers and electronics could be among their number. Considering the information given to us by the profiles, that would implicate Jack, Rhys, and I.

[Which is also not very endearing, either? But she understands the reasoning and won't put up much of a fight, although she sighs at the end.]

Whatever we decide, it should be as a group.

[personal profile] karmas 2016-10-16 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Dividing our votes into smaller categories is the most dangerous thing we can do - it gives the staff an opportunity to outvote us.

Do you have any preference?
liven: (DUBIOUS ► glance aside.)

[personal profile] liven 2016-10-16 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
We can always poll people for what they're leaning towards specifically right now.
karmas: (s: tsk tsk)

[personal profile] karmas 2016-10-16 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Very well. Personally, I am leaning towards Miss Lara Croft.

What's got you lookin' at her?
karmas: (s: superior)

[personal profile] karmas 2016-10-16 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Beyond everything I mentioned before? Her reaction to being accused. At first, I found her less suspicious than Luke Castellan and Elizabeth. But while Elizabeth assuaged some of my suspicions, the others did not. And I believe she was subtly redirecting the dialogue to Leo Baskerville, despite being unwilling to name any suspicious individuals when I asked her.

[personal profile] toyotamane 2016-10-16 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, she seems pretty easily flustered, I don't know if that means much.

[It seems too obvious that way...]

I'd be more wary of someone who could talk their way out of things, myself. Especially if they got on your radar to begin with.

Those two who find voting for Judy favorable have a concerning outlook to me.
karmas: (a: sad!)

[personal profile] karmas 2016-10-16 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed that voting for Her Honor is a foolish suggestion, but it is, to my reasoning, an understandable suggestion when viewed through the lens of a fool's underdeveloped mind.

They're frightened infants, looking for a way out where blood won't be spilled. It isn't suspicious, only misguided.

I don't. I would prefer to abstain if it were a wise choice, but we've all learned from our experience with Diva.

It's cowardly of me, but I'll follow whatever the majority decides.

I do. But not at such a terrible cost.

[And if they end up voting for her, then at least someone else can make use of her monitor. It's all she can do.]

If you're innocent, don't throw yourself out like some sacrificial lamb. That gets you nowhere and only makes it easier for the staff to accomplish whatever goal they have.

[personal profile] injectors 2016-10-16 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I would rather not be killed because of my skill set either, Rhys. But... [as much as it pains her to say it:] I understand their reasoning. And if they must vote for someone based on skill, I'll make sure it isn't you or Jack.

[ have a pained look and he looks rather awkward for a moment before reaching out a hand to squeeze her hand in a gesture of a weird sort of comfort. rhys isn't good at this kind of thing. ]

You, er. You shouldn't do that. No, uh. Jack and I are plenty awful without this experiment -- if one of us is going to die, might as well be us. Even if I super, duper, duper don't want any of us to.

[ you're not hyperion is what he's saying. ]

[ are you seriously pulling that right now. rhys just gives jack a very flat look. ]

Dude, are you gonna say you're a better person than Angel? Is that what you're saying here? Have you met her? She's like, a baby lamb. She just implied she was gonna do something stupid to get us out of the bind, asshole.

She's a little bit startled by it, but she squeezes his hand back. Why is this happening. God. Help us all.]

I've met some truly monstrous people in my life, Rhys. I'm not certain you and Jack would measure up.

[Ah. The irony. She tries for a smile, however weak it may be.]

... But thank you. All we can do now is wait.

Eh. I dunno, I feel like I'd have to challenge you on that scale.

[ but right. wait. he goes a little pale and nods jerkily. ]

Right, that -- the vote. Yeah. Now we wait.

[:(]

I think you've got everything nailed down pretty well, Angel. [He even dredges up a smile.] I think Veronica was mentioned as someone who knows electronics but maybe she was cleared, I don't know. There's...a lot going on. [He doesn't want any of these people to die what the fuck.] Getting everybody to vote as a group is going to be a pain in the ass though.

The reasoning behind me, Lara and Elizabeth is different than the reasoning behind you, Jack and Rhys. What option do we want to look over first?

[She smiles back, though it's a little strange.]

Perhaps... the reasoning behind Jack, Rhys and I. Lara, Elizabeth and you are being implicated based on Diva's interrogation, aren't you?
chiseler: (and if you can't get what you want)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-10-16 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, from what I can figure. What is it that you, Jack and Rhys really know how to do? Programming is pretty vast isn't it?

I can't speak for Rhys or Jack, but there's a great number of things I could achieve with a computer. [To the point where she once acted more like an AI than a human, but.] Well... Given enough time, anyway. The input method for these machines is different from what I'm used to.
