DAY TWO (morning)

DAY 2 (morning)
Complex Population: 34

It's 8AM, and rather than waking naturally, you awake to the sound of an odd tone ringing through the intercom. As you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always, Judy's voice speaks up a few moments after.

"A death has occurred. Safety Protocol 6227-A is now in effect. Protocol now available on Complex terminals."

That ominous message might prompt you to leave your room more quickly. You can check out the terminal, where a new file is available, but as you head into the atrium, you might notice something else.

The viewing stage is open.

It seems that someone was busy during the night.

This post is for the second day as defined in the schedule. This post is for investigation and general mingling before the trial that takes place in the afternoon IC.

[And try they will. He and Angel have talked and decided to at least try to look at the locked door. His profile does say he's good at breaking locks, after all, and so when he and Angel approach he's eyeing the door before putting a hand on it. He attempts to concentrate, but like other locked doors in the area he can't open it.

That's the scary part. So he turns to face Angel with a questioning look on his face.]

...it's not working. Any other ideas how to get in?

[If she believes the action to be strange, she doesn't comment on it. After all, it was only a day or two ago that she, herself, tried to activate the commissary terminal in a similar way. She can withhold her curiosity until later.

For now, she frowns at the door, considering.]

There are no locks or handles on the door, so perhaps brute force is the next step. We could try locating an item sturdy enough to break it down, and proceed from there.

[Sound advice. Maybe. Possibly. Please don't break yourself, Luke.]

[He tilts his head at the door, pondering for a moment before looking at his own hands. He curls his right hand into a fist, staring at the viewing window before his eyes light up.]

Hang on. [And he darts off…only to return with a couple of canned food items. He appears to be hefting a can of mixed veggies in his hand, considering an angle before he nods.]

You might wanna step back? [That's about the only warning Angel gets before he winds up and…sure…does…throw the can of veggies as hard as he can straight at the glass to see if it'll shatter.]

[THANKS FOR THE WARNING, PAL. Or not. Angel is not light on her feet by any means, so "stepping back" basically equals "stumbling back" like a complete and utter idiot once he throws the can. The bounce-back sure doesn't help her case, and she almost falls on her ass while flinching away from the can.

But she doesn't.

Now, can the same be said for her brave, moronic, newfangled Vault Hunter?]

[Anytime! It's unfortunate that Luke doesn't take his own warnings seriously because he throws and waits to see if the glass will shatter. It doesn't, but he also doesn't have enough time to back up before the can ricochets off of the glass and collides right into his stomach for a suckerpunch. He's still agile enough that he doesn't fall but it's enough to knock the wind out of him as the can rolls away. A hand immediately comes up to his abdomen and he staring at the glass, but he at least has enough dignity to gasp out:]

--what? [Just for that, he's picking up the can again and he's preparing to throw it. He knows it won't help but he's kind of pissed? Angel please...stop him.]

—Oh, no.

[Alas, there is nothing she can do for Luke as the can takes its revenge against him. Sorry, but also... Nah. She's genuinely sorry. And she opens her mouth to ask if he's okay, but then he's picking up the can again with the clear intention of throwing it, and she's sucking in a breath instead.]

Friend, wait! Stop. When I suggested brute force, I did not mean you should injure yourself twice. Please — put the can down and let's think of another way.

[It's hard to say what stops him first, the fact that she says "stop" or the fact that she addresses him the way she does. He pauses, lowering the can and dropping it with a huff as he rubs at the sore spot of impact. He winds up giving her a slightly sheepish look, though he's approaching the glass.]

I'm fine. I've taken harder hits than that...[Probably. Still. The can's set on the floor and he moves to the glass where he hit it with said-can.] Dunno what this is made out of that it's not even damaged. Ever seen anything like this before? [What about knocking on it with his knuckles? That probably won't hurt him but he can get an idea how thick the glass is, etc.]
