DAY 1 Complex Population: 35 ( October 3 - October 6 ) It's 8AM, and you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always. There's breakfast avaliable in the cafeteria if you want it, as well as meals from 11AM-12PM and 7PM-8PM, but otherwise? The day is yours. Take your time to explore the complex, relax, and enjoy each others' company, as who knows what the next day has in store? Though as you explore, you may notice that there's a new door unlocked and a new place for you to spend the day. One of the locked doors on the second floor is now open, so residents can partake in the clean, modest gym if you're the kind to keep in shape. — This post is for the first day as defined in the schedule. [ He hasn't yet seen the damage of the rec room yet but when Alvin points it out, he sighs. Like he knows who did it. ]

Or they could go for more productive forms of destruction.

[betraitor]

Yeah? What do you call "more productive" in a place like this?

[he's curious to know what someone else thinks.]

Breaking the walls instead? Broken pool cues aren't going to do anything. Not unless you sharpen them, I guess.

[betraitor]

The walls would be a better start, if we've got what it takes. But someone screwing that up could land us in hotter waters than we're already in.

[he wouldn't discourage anyone from doing it though.]

You think? What do you imagine Judy would do?

[betraitor]

The hell if I know. With these things— [he motions to the ankle monitor.] that could spell all kind of trouble.

I'm not too big on keeping my faith in someone who says we all agreed to be here without telling us how we got here or when we agreed to it.

[antietam]

[ Adam smiles bitterly down at his own ankle monitor. It is a problem. ] I think it's less keeping faith and more... calling their bluff? I don't know, they want us here for a reason. Why hurt us?

[betraitor]

Why not? Just because we're here doesn't mean we aren't expendable. You start playing with fire, and you know what can happen next.

[getting burned. it's not like alvin's opposed to sticking it to judy, but not before knowing what the hell's actually going on.]

[antietam]

Do you think all of us are expendable? If we all went along with something, could they burn all of us and start over? I mean, I'd think this whole thing was expensive.

[betraitor]

It wouldn't be the first time I've seen it happen. You can't trust anyone in situations like that—even when you're on their side, they could turn heel and make you into a victim whenever they want.

[antietam]

Ah. [ He sure does remembering that whole 'betraying everyone he's ever known' bit from Alvin's profile. ]

There's a theory that someone here could be in charge of this experiment or whatever. Do you believe that?

[betraitor]

[hilariously enough, he's considering that the one person he didn't betray pulled this crap on him more than once. funny how that goes.]

I don't know if I believe it. I'm not gonna rule it out, but I'd say Judy's more suspicious than the rest of us unless we've got some real good actors around here. Who knows, though? People can be pretty surprising when they want to be.

Or if their hand is being forced.

It's hard to tell that someone's acting if you've never met them before. Probably the goal in getting a bunch of strangers here...

But you think people could be blackmailed into being, what, spies? As opposed to actively working for whoever took us?

[betraitor]

You'd be surprised. Some people wear their bad acting all over their face.

[he's just sayin'.]

I don't think anything but the fact that possibility's on the table. Blackmail, bribery—there's a lot of people out there who'll comply if something's on the line. [but he shrugs, adding:] And some people may just do it because they want to. They're working for them legit, or they're in cahoots for some other reason.

If it's something like that, we're not gonna be able to know until something comes to light anyway.

[antietam]

... No, you're right. [ There's a pause. ] Maybe they just want us to suspect each other, you know? Reveal these profiles... put things like betraying people on them.

[ Have a Look. Mind explaining that? ]

[betraitor]

How long have you been waiting to whip that one out?

[he should have known it was coming sooner or later, but alvin doesn't try to deny his actions.]

I'm not gonna act like it's not true. I betrayed a lot of people. Comes with my line of work—doesn't mean I'm proud of it. But that's just the guy I am, always suspicious to someone, so I guess here won't be any different.

[if people are going to suspect him of being a traitor, he can't stop them. what's more sad is that he's really not even trying, despite the undertone of exasperation in his voice.]

[antietam]

[ Maybe he'd feel guilty about the question if he weren't so focused on figuring this guy out. ] I think it's a fair question, all things considered.

What's your line of work? ... I appreciate your honesty, but I'm suspicious of just about everyone here. I promise you're not special.

[betraitor]

[alvin's so used to it that it really doesn't faze him as much as it probably should. this is probably a new record for suspicion, though!]

I'm not looking to be special, just saying it how it is. I'm a mercenary... and one that's taken jobs for all kinds of people. Kings, opposing militaries, old ladies who've lost their cats. Sometimes it means spilling the things I've learned. It's work, nothing personal, you know how it is.

[antietam]

... Of course. [ And he doesn't look judgmental, but still bothered. ]

So you're not denying that you could be paid into participating in something like this?

[betraitor]

It would depend on the circumstances. Something like this isn't really my thing, but it's not like I can say I wouldn't if there wasn't a damn good reason.

[but...] I'd have to actually be able to remember what the hell landed me here in the first place, though.

[antietam]

That's the thing. Anyone would. And someone who says they wouldn't participate for a price is a liar. [ See, he's equally suspicious of everyone. ]

What do you last remember doing?

[betraitor]

I guess that makes me a little more honest than some people, right? [not that it matters in the least, and alvin knows it.]

I was headed out of town with some people to take care of... a pretty big problem. Next thing I knew, I was waking up in this place like nothing even happened at all.
