day one

DAY 1
Complex Population: 35

( October 3 - October 6 )

It's 8AM, and you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always.

There's breakfast avaliable in the cafeteria if you want it, as well as meals from 11AM-12PM and 7PM-8PM, but otherwise? The day is yours. Take your time to explore the complex, relax, and enjoy each others' company, as who knows what the next day has in store?

Though as you explore, you may notice that there's a new door unlocked and a new place for you to spend the day. One of the locked doors on the second floor is now open, so residents can partake in the clean, modest gym if you're the kind to keep in shape.

This post is for the first day as defined in the schedule. This post is for general mingling and CR buidling, and will not include significant plot interaction.

Sure can.

[alvin, don't be a punk.]

Listen, I'm all about being pissed about the situation, but breaking one of the few things we have around here that's actually kinda fun isn't the way to go. Go break crap in your own apartment if you're that set on messing things up.

[more or less "don't spoil my fun because you mad," or something like that.]
chiseler: (say it again)

[He's digging around for a second before coming up with a deck of cards, pulling them out of the box to shuffle in his hands.] Have you looked at our apartments? There's not a whole lot in there to break that wouldn't piss people off further. Somebody else already busted one of the showers too so it's not just the fun things.

[But he kind of agrees. Some people are overreacting just a little.]

Well, it's not like breaking the things outside the apartments is pissing off people less. You can keep it contained to the people you're sleeping with, or you can piss off the whole lot.

[he worded that way on purpose, because he's a jackass. either way?]

Neither one's gonna end up with good results if they keep pressing their luck. The situation's pretty crappy, but it's not like breaking things is going to make our benevolent captors suddenly decide to let us go.

Maybe it won't get them to decide to let us go, but it'll definitely get their attention. [Optimistically anyway. He's not even sure he believes it and instead he appears to be setting up a game of solitaire on the edge of the pool table.]

How pissed are the people from your apartment anyway?

Getting their attention doesn't mean all that much unless we can actually do something with it.

[aside from throw temper tantrums. they need leverage, and that's something they don't really have at all at the moment. either way, he'll peer on as luke starts his little solitaire game—better than getting roped into poker, or blackjack or something like that.]

They're taking it better than some other people. I'm not sure what it says about them, some seem a little more... easily agitated than others.

[t's a mixed bag, for sure.]

[He appears to be focused on his cards but no, he's hanging onto Alvin's every word and analyzing it to interpret pretty much however he wants.]

You're the one who was talking about improvising weren't ya? Getting attention from the people watching us is the hardest part. Everything after that is instinct. [He flips a few cards and moves them around on the edge.]

It's almost been sort of fun seeing what bothers people. Nothing else to do here, you learn pretty fast.

Improvising's also about knowing when to pick your battles, kid. [he responds with a shrug, because that's pretty much just how it goes with him.]

We're dealing with a wildcard—and I'm more interested in keeping myself alive than starting a rebellion for attention. Being adaptable to the situation's a lot more valuable than throwing a tantrum.

[he knows this from experience.]
chiseler: (dominated by passerbys)

[He rewards him with a look that seems to say he understands Alvin's point, even if he doesn't necessarily agree with it.] The thing about being adaptable is that if you're adaptable too long aren't you sort of signing yourself over to having to deal with beings more powerful than yourself? I'm not saying a tantrum's the way to go, but I've got a feeling most people here don't know the difference between "adaptable" and "pushover."

[Really, the only reason he's saying any of this to Alvin in particular is he has a feeling he might understand.]

Sometimes you do. But that's the risk you have to take when you're dealing with a force more powerful than yourself—especially if that force has some real leverage to keep you down.

[this is a situation he is all too familiar with, and the brief flash of bitterness in his expression.]

Even when you know, it doesn't always make a difference. But it means you still have to pick your battles, especially when we don't know what we're up against here.
