week zero

DAY 0
Complex Population: 36

( September 30 - October 1 )

You awake as if from a deep sleep.

The first thing you might notice are colors, since you'll find yourself sitting in a pretty garish room. This looks like a restaurant or cafeteria of some kind, but for now, there's no food in sight. At least you're not alone. There are 35 other people here, and they're all stirring too, probably looking just as confused as you are. As you wake, you're also likely to feel a heaviness on your ankle, and as you look down, you'll see what looks like some kind of ankle monitor strapped there.

Just as you might start to question where you are, a voice speaks up from an intercom system. It's a calm, cool female voice.

"Good morning, residents. Welcome to the Complex. We hope that you enjoy your time here. We'd like to thank you for choosing to stay with us."

Choose? Did you really choose to be here? Try as you might to recall that event, you certainly have no memory of that, though as you start to think, other gaps in your memory may appear... But there's no time to think of those, since the calm voice continues without pause.

"My name is Judy, and I'll be providing for your basic needs during your stay. You may contact me through any terminal in the Complex, though I may not always be able to answer immediately depending on what I may be attending to. As we are busy setting up for your stay still, it may be up to twenty-four hours before I can respond to any inquiries. For now, let's review your rooming assignments..."

Judy begins to drone on, calling out names as she lists off rooms and who is assigned to them, but no matter how you might protest, it seems like she doesn't hear you. Looks like you better get familiar with these people, since it sounds like you could be rooming with up to four of them.

"Finally, I would like to remind all residents that there are restrictions on both occupancy and a curfew. Apartments may not house any more than five people, and mandatory curfew begins at 11PM. However, these systems are not quite operational yet, so we will allow these rules to be broken until the proper systems are back online. We expect this to take no longer than three days, so you may enjoy this freedom responsibly until Monday evening."

Where you've woken up is a strange place, and many doors are locked, but there's at least some places open for exploration. There are also plenty of people seemingly stuck in the same situation as you, so they might be worth getting to know.

After all, who knows how long you'll be here?

Welcome to [community profile] 62! This is our first post, and it acts as a general mingle to start off the game. Check out the setting, make toplevels, and tag around. For now, Judy won't be able to be contacted (she's very busy, you know), so this is a general CR building post before we dive into the game proper.

The first night post will be on Sunday, so if you have a role, you should have already been contacted. This will begin the normal schedule as described here. There will be another day post on Monday, and this is where characters will have an opportunity to talk to Judy. In addition, as she mentioned, there will be a mandated curfew to go along with the rooming restrictions, but these won't be in effect until the next game post on Monday. Enjoy your freedom while it lasts!

Finally, remember that if your character would like to use the commissary to note what they're taking!

[ when Jack looks up from the position he was currently scowling from, he will find a man that was what could only be described as the exact opposite of a """kiddo""". it is, in fact, Bigby Wolf, someone who had just gotten out of a very dramatic shower with hair still wet to show how recent it had been. apparently destroying property works up an appetite, and that's furthered by the fact that he had consumed nothing but cigarette smoke and alcohol the day before.

he was going to leave the scavenger alone to fetch his own cans, sharing the opinion of processed food sounding completely unappealing at such an early point in their stay. when he's referred to in such a strange way, however, he's glaring downwards at the man requesting help. ]

Help yourself, asshole. Do you even know how to cook?

[ one good look indicates he's a guy that usually has a servant prepping food for him. most likely an older man named Woodhouse that is still referred to as """kiddo""". seriously, what the fuck, Jack. learn to filter your pet names. ]

[ Jack realizes his mistake as soon as the nickname is out of his mouth. The glare definitely gets Jack's eyes to widen in surprise, because, wow, big, scary dude, and he just pissed him off. Awesome. Look before you say something for once in your life, Jack, Christ. ]

Heyyyy, sorry about that—

[ Jack stands and smiles sheepishly in apology, but the smile falls at the question. ]

What? I totally know how to cook. Like, I'm not gonna be on Eden-5's Top Chefs or anything, but, yeah? Enough.

[ Bigby's immediate reply wants to be, "Heyyyy, go fuck yourself", but he will give credit to Jack for apologizing immediately. it's probably out of fear of getting his nose broken (wrong guy, surprisingly), and that's okay. he'll take it. ]

Whatever. It's fine. [ he's already heard someone refer to their home as Rapture, so a strange place called Eden-5 isn't going to make him perk a brow this time. ] If I help you look, can you cook more than one serving? Not much of a cook myself.

[ he, y'know, usually likes to eat his food raw. :') ]

[ Oh, good. Since, yeah, part of why that apology was so quick was definitely that this is a scary dude that Jack really doesn't want to mess with. At least, not without a good reason. It's probably because of that slight intimidation that Jack is surprised by Bigby's question, but he at least smiles. ]

Yep, sure can. But. No promises that it's gonna be a five star meal or anything. I'm... okay. Ish. At cooking. Heavy on the "ish," if that's cool.
