week zero
![]() Complex Population: 36 ( September 30 - October 1 ) You awake as if from a deep sleep. The first thing you might notice are colors, since you'll find yourself sitting in a pretty garish room. This looks like a restaurant or cafeteria of some kind, but for now, there's no food in sight. At least you're not alone. There are 35 other people here, and they're all stirring too, probably looking just as confused as you are. As you wake, you're also likely to feel a heaviness on your ankle, and as you look down, you'll see what looks like some kind of ankle monitor strapped there. Just as you might start to question where you are, a voice speaks up from an intercom system. It's a calm, cool female voice. "Good morning, residents. Welcome to the Complex. We hope that you enjoy your time here. We'd like to thank you for choosing to stay with us." Choose? Did you really choose to be here? Try as you might to recall that event, you certainly have no memory of that, though as you start to think, other gaps in your memory may appear... But there's no time to think of those, since the calm voice continues without pause. "My name is Judy, and I'll be providing for your basic needs during your stay. You may contact me through any terminal in the Complex, though I may not always be able to answer immediately depending on what I may be attending to. As we are busy setting up for your stay still, it may be up to twenty-four hours before I can respond to any inquiries. For now, let's review your rooming assignments..." Judy begins to drone on, calling out names as she lists off rooms and who is assigned to them, but no matter how you might protest, it seems like she doesn't hear you. Looks like you better get familiar with these people, since it sounds like you could be rooming with up to four of them. "Finally, I would like to remind all residents that there are restrictions on both occupancy and a curfew. Apartments may not house any more than five people, and mandatory curfew begins at 11PM. However, these systems are not quite operational yet, so we will allow these rules to be broken until the proper systems are back online. We expect this to take no longer than three days, so you may enjoy this freedom responsibly until Monday evening." Where you've woken up is a strange place, and many doors are locked, but there's at least some places open for exploration. There are also plenty of people seemingly stuck in the same situation as you, so they might be worth getting to know. After all, who knows how long you'll be here? Welcome to ![]() The first night post will be on Sunday, so if you have a role, you should have already been contacted. This will begin the normal schedule as described here. There will be another day post on Monday, and this is where characters will have an opportunity to talk to Judy. In addition, as she mentioned, there will be a mandated curfew to go along with the rooming restrictions, but these won't be in effect until the next game post on Monday. Enjoy your freedom while it lasts! Finally, remember that if your character would like to use the commissary to note what they're taking! |

I'm not exactly happy about having roommates. [He was looking forward to having his own space finally.] And unless the bathrooms have those air dryer things I don't know if that'll help. What makes you so sure this place is gonna crumble though?
[Surprisingly he wants to know Adam's opinion.]
no subject
[ But he gives Luke a weird look and then there's a quiet chuckle. ] It does have towels which maybe isn't as fancy, but could probably help you? And me, considering... [ He pulls at his own shirt, telling Luke that he did indeed splash him. Maybe apologize? ]
I just mean we aren't going to stay like this forever. Aimlessly wandering or jumping off whatever. There's something more here and maybe it'll mean escape or something less exciting.

[He's giving his shirt one last wring before he shakes it out, looking back to the direction of the bathrooms. Coming, Parrish? He's going to start walking.]
That's a very optimistic way of looking at things. Seems like right now it's just...a weird jail facility. Have you tried opening the other doors? We're locked out.
no subject
But also why is he walking around shirtless?? Adam is going to awkwardly follow, staring at the ground. ]
Place we're not supposed to go. But they don't seem like exits either. So why build them if they didn't bother building windows or doors to outside? That's why I think we're going to see what's in there eventually. [ A pause. ] To continue that optimism, let's hope there's an amusement park in there or something.
no subject
Depends what's behind those doors. I tried breaking into a few, no such luck. [He makes a sound that could almost pass as a chuckle though.] I haven't seen an amusement park in years. After everything else we've heard about this place? Maybe that wouldn't be the strangest thing.
no subject
Once they get to the bathroom, he motions to the towels that are there. ] I don't think I've ever been to one, actually. Now I'm kinda hoping that's what's behind door number 1. [ He looks over at him. ] What else have you heard?
no subject
How have you never been to an amusement park at all? [Adam you seem so normal?] And not much. Just what Judy told us and also people finding an item from home waiting for them in the apartments? You don't find that strange at all?
no subject
[ He catches the towel and eyes Luke, then Luke's shirt. This is a lot. Still, he removes his own wet shirt because apparently this is normal and fine. Who cares. He'll copy Luke, draping his shirt to dry. ] I don't come from a place that's known for fun. [ He can be just as vague as Luke. The mention of the item makes him frown. ] Of course it's strange. How they got them and why they chose... What did you find?
no subject
[He's busy drying off his upper body and his hair as they talk, thinking this through.] Can't be any worse than this place. [He looks down at his still damp shoes, wiggling his toes a bit.] I just found a pair of shoes...you?
no subject
... Shoes are nice. [ Adam glances over to look at his shoes. His item doesn't make any sense compared to that. ] They're useful. Maybe you're being told that you're gonna walk a lot. I didn't get anything like that. What's your name, anyway?
no subject
[He's scowling at the shoes. They're nice, sure, but that's not what they're supposed to do.] There's really nowhere to be walking to though in case you haven't noticed. [He pauses with his towel around his neck, leaning back just a bit to stare at Adam again.]
...tell you what. You tell me what you got, I'll give you my name. [Adam why didn't you just tell him? That makes it more suspicious.]
no subject
He thinks this might eventually turn into a pleasant conversation but clearly Luke doesn't want that. ] You can't exactly use them when they're that wet either. Shouldn't you let them dry too?
Besides, do you think I really want your name that bad? Do you want my name that bad?
no subject
[He's not sure he wants to risk losing track of them just in case.] It couldn't hurt if we're both stuck waiting out our roommates, could it? Unless you want me to call you something stupid.
no subject
[ Then he rolls his eyes but. Yeah he's probably just kind of stuck here for a while. ] I'm Adam. I can always just call you, what, Converse? Chuck?
no subject
Or you can call me Luke, Adam. That probably makes more sense. That cool?
no subject
But he gets a smile. ] I guess Luke is better. Nice to meet you, Luke. I do kind of appreciate the company. Wandering around alone while everyone's asleep? Probably not something to do in a new environment.
no subject
[He's back to drying his hair.] Nice to meet you too, I think. Considering where we are. [He looks around the bathroom then.] This place can't be too bad if it's just us and only a couple of resources.
no subject
[ Adam also glances around. He didn't really look much before because it's kind of an awkward place. ] What, the bathroom? No, feels pretty safe when it's just the two of us. Is that a sauna? [ And he wanders over to it to check. ] Why aren't we using this?
no subject
[He rolls his eyes.] Not just the bathroom, no. [He suddenly turns to stare at the sauna.] Is a sauna supposed to dry us off? I thought those things were supposed to just make you sweat.
no subject
Sure, but it's dry heat. I think. [ He's never seen a sauna but that should be how it works. ] Do you wanna try it? Since you're still all... [ He just motions to the mess that is Luke Castellan. ]
no subject
no subject
I think we just adjust the stove to whatever temperature we want. Do you like it hot? [ He'll just start messing with it to get it to turn on. ]
no subject
no subject
[ He does just that, grabbing both shirts to take to the sauna to dry off as well. ] I guess we have to hope they don't shrink.
no subject
I think they'll probably be fine. It's not real heat like a dryer or anything. It should dry off my shorts too don't you think? We'll wait around for like ten minutes.
