trial #5

DAY 10 (afternoon)
Complex Population: 15

At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom.

"Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level."

Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need.

As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in.

You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is.

It's been a while since I've flexed my debate team skills. College feels like it happened longer back than it really did.

Give us a chance, let's talk about this. Please.

Let's. I cannot speak for everyone, but I would rather not end your lives without your consent.

Good, because you don't.

You have to trust me. There's more going on here than you know about - don't make decisions for the group of us until we're sure.

We won't.

Do you know what is going on outside of this Complex? You may answer with a simple yes or no. I'll understand if you're unable to share, given the "side-effects" mentioned by Judy.

Yes.

Take a break if you feel off, Angel. Please. I won't make you suffer anymore than what you have.

I do not know if Rhys knows more than I do... whatever he and Ciel have been planning is out of my understanding but I can tell you that I don't think what's going on out there is what you want it to be, and if you sacrifice us to that, I don't think you'll be happy.

Don't worry, Lara. The only life I'm comfortable sacrificing is my own. I won't allow anyone to delete you based on Ciel and Rhys's suggestions.

There must be another way to escape this cycle of death without putting any of you at risk.

Thank you, Angel.

If we can all get out of this, then I won't have any regrets, but... don't be afraid to do what you have to do to survive, either.

If you do get out there, just remember: there's always a way to fight, and a reason to be alive.

I'll remember. Thank you, as well.

And if there's any way for us to help you, we will. You may say you're fine as you are, but - I cannot help but to wonder if there's a way to restore your mobility.

[As in, let them shove the survivors into robots. Gosh.]

I'm unhappy, actually.

[ lara croft doesn't do the 20s life style sorry ]

I only know of transporting data and you'd... perhaps... need robotics of some sort for that. The only ones that come to mind are the ones on Rhys, or perhaps his robot friend. Assuming it's still fine.

I'm sorry.

I have little knowledge of engineering, but Rhys is still alive. Perhaps something good can come out of his continued existence, if there's anything to be done with the limited resources at hand.

It's not your apology to give, Angel. But I'll be honest as I can be.

I think that any plans the Staff had for themselves could be usurped, at least, and used for all of us. Perhaps there's a way to draw Ciel out, or get him talking.

I'll think from our side as well. There's... not much I can do from here, I think. Unless perhaps you'd like me to set up a burger joint for the rest of us.

Then voting for Ciel may be the first step to achieving that.

But don't worry, Lara. If a burger joint is all that can be done from that side, then I'll take it. Looking at the glass as half-full, we'll at least have enough food to go around should we all perish.

He'll die if he doesn't show. And in return, someone else will die - someone innocent. You need to at least find out the identity of the last Staff member; they have more information than us, Angel.

I don't think that we'll run the risk of perishing. Nor do I think we need food, actually, what with being data and all.
