trial #5
![]() Complex Population: 15 At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom. "Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level." Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need. As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in. You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is. ic rulebook character statuses character profiles Voting will close at 9PM EST on 11/5. voting |

[Can a computer be put on trial for a murder? Who knows...]
...Judy? A question. Can I talk to the dead for a moment? I wasn't here, for the reveal of that strange message board, but I know of it. I'd like to hear their input, if possible.
no subject
[ this is actually because I'm not sure how many dead people are online rn so I would have to check so please hold... ]

[He's starting to have his suspicions as to where, exactly, they are...but that's for another time.]
Because if they do, I want to let them know about it and see what they think.

[Oh, no.]
[He covers his face with a hand. No, that would mean...Elizabeth....Bigby...]
Judy, tell me the truth. [He takes a deep breath.] Are they...inside your databases?

[Alice doesn't know enough about computers to have come to this conclusion on her own - but she's been listening, and hearing the conclusion Alfendi has come to makes her blood run cold.]
...no...
no subject
[He's actually trembling.]
Elizabeth and Bigby....we can't...god, Alice, we can't lose them...not like this...
no subject
She reaches over and grabs both of Alfendi's hands to try and stop the trembling. It's not just for his sake, either - her hands are trembling, too.]
We won't vote for her. Got it? We're not voting for her. We'll vote for Ciel, or - or anyone else.
no subject
[This is horrible. She doesn't want to intrude on this moment, but none of their options are good, and...]
If Judy will allow it, we should ask the dead what they would prefer. To continue existing within Judy, without any escape, or to... be no more.
no subject
[Back to smiling! Back to feeling nothing! Feeling nothing is the way to go!]
[He clears his throat.]
Let's do that, then. Perhaps it's hell for them, being the way they are...

[But she's not voting for Judy until she gets an okay from both Elizabeth and Bigby.
She doesn't care about the other dead people, sorry guys.](no subject)

[He could never bring himself to do that. He can't. Somehow, in a weird way, he almost wishes they were dead and gone for good. Just having them alive in some strange way is almost a blessing and a curse at the same time.]
So, what, we just play the game? Try to decide which five people get to keep their human bodies and which ones get to live in a computer forever? Is that what we want, Alice...?
no subject
[She grits her teeth. She has not lasted as long as she has to be stopped by this.]
Snap out of it. We'll find a way to ask Elizabeth and Bigby what they want, and then we'll act. But we can't lose it here, do you understand me? Get yourself together!

What do you two think you're doing?
[He passes his hand over his face]
I know it is a hard decision, but consider this:
Can they even be saved?
no subject
I can't imagine it's an easy decision for anyone in this situation. I don't know how I would feel, knowing I could be deleted at any time...

You're pretty quick to accept that Rhys is telling the truth about us being able to be saved.

[That was a reflex. Dojima shakes his head, taking the information immediately]
So we may be sacrificing the lives of everyone who has died in exchange of ours, or at least what's left of their lives. That's...a tough decision.
no subject
What does that mean...?
no subject
[For the first time during this trial, it seems Alfendi's poker face is slipping. He takes a moment to try to collect himself.]
They're inside the machines, the terminals. They're now just...literal ghosts in the machine. Ha! Ha, how ironic...
no subject
And from what's gathered, Judy is the machine, or a big part of it. So to vote for her would mean their true annihilation.]
But then... why would Rhys want to die before we did all this?
no subject
Don't take this supposition for granted, though.

I suppose he feels guilty enough and thinks living out forever in a machine is a suitable fate for him. I don't know how that man thinks. He's out of his mind.
