DAY 8 (afternoon) Complex Population: 19 At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom. "Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level." Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need. As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in. [But she's got the whip to, uh... encourage people to answer, if they don't seem inclined to.]

With the collars and the bombs... There is someone I suspect may be, at the very least, partially responsible for this.

[Alfendi shakes his head.]

What's with the collars, by the way? Are they like some kind of extra ankle monitor, or what?

[injectors]

It's... a gift from the staff.

[She's glancing at Rhys from across the room, with his identical collar.]

... Whenever I am hurt, Rhys will be receive a similar amount of pain through an electric shock. The inverse is also true.

[He's silent for a moment.]

What if one of you dies?

[injectors]

Then I assume the other would receive a fatal shock. Seems up to par with everything we've seen so far.

[She doesn't seem to upset by the idea of dying, however.]

[He stares at her, thinking.]

Then one of you or the both of you must be a staff member. Because that's a perfect little plan on how to protect themselves. People won't take a chance voting on someone who will drag someone else down with them.

[injectors]

... I don't want to believe that is the case, but if it is—

[She swallows thickly here, because she's alive and it may be a second chance. But. But...]

Then know I am not afraid of dying if it means taking out a member of the staff. Do not hesitate to cast your vote if your theory proves to be correct.

[selfdenying]

[There is a possibility that both of them are innocent, and this is a trap, to allow the survivors to kill the innocent for them. But then again, it might not. It's hard to tell.]

...I'm only 52.7% certain that it's the case, anyways. I need more evidence from that yellow-bellied idiot.

And you will get it, I'm sure. All I ask is that you don't ignore your suspicions on my account.

I don't think they're both staff members. That would be too much of a risk - letting us take out two of them at once if we were to decide to vote for one of them anyway.

[Alice purses her lips.]

But I agree that at least one of them probably is. I don't think it's Angel - she hasn't really come under much suspicion so far. But Rhys... [Her gaze wanders over to him and she glares.] What better way to protect himself than to tie his life to someone most of the people here like?

He seems like a coward, and what is more cowardly than using a damn hostage to protect himself?

[He curls his lip back in an expression of disgust.]

And he has the technological know-how too. I'm not saying the moron is guilty, but he's looking that way.

He's looking pretty guilty to me too. What a coward...

[She makes a face.]

And it's not even the clever kind of cowardice I can sort of admire. This is just gross.

Same. I like those who can pull off murders with absolute confidence, you know? The ones who don't take some sleazy way out to try to protect themselves from the repercussions.

If he is a staff member, then he's just pitiful.

If we do see him in the execution chamber today, I hope I get to take a crack at him.

I'm no murderer, but I'd be happy to take a chance on him in that chamber, as well. Quite happy.

[It would be crossing a certain moral line, but at this point, he doesn't even care anymore.]

[She gives a cute little curtsy, but bobbing her head to do so makes it pound, so she'll just... shuffle off to go lean against a wall or something so she can be in good shape to threaten people if it becomes necessary.]
