trial #3 - execution
![]() Complex Population: 27 At 7PM, a tone rings out, but it's not Judy's voice that filters out over the intercom. "TALLYING VOTES. . ." The voice is mechanical and robotic, and a pause lingers in the air. It seems that the voting system is run by some kind of AI. "CONSENSUS REACHED. MAJORITY VOTE. ADAM PARRISH. STATUS: GUILTY. ADAM, PROCEED TO THE JUDGEMENT THEATER. CHARGING..." There's the sound of clicking, and Adam will receive a very sharp shock to their ankle monitor. If they don't step into the judgement room, the shock will increase in strength every ten seconds until they're unconscious. Regardless, the voice continues to drone on. "DESIGNATING EXECUTIONER. . . ANGEL. ANGEL, PROCEED TO THE JUDGEMENT THEATER. CHARGING..." The second person will receive the same treatment. No one else will be able to step into the judgement theater after them without receiving a nasty shock before they can step too close, and once they're both inside, the door closes behind both of them. There's a clicking sound from the walls, and the panels on the right side of the room are pulled up to reveal a thick glass that allows you to look into the Judgement Theater. It seems justice is meant to come from the the hands of the jury. ic rulebook character statuses character profiles votes |
execution
TERMS: EXECUTIONER, PLEASE SELECT TOOL FROM TERMINAL. GUILTY PARTY, PLEASE AWAIT EXECUTION. IN CASE OF NON-COMPLIANCE OF EXECUTIONER, GUILTY PARTY MAY SELECT TOOL. THIS ROOM WILL OPEN WHEN AT LEAST ONE PERSON HAS PERISHED. BIO-SENSORS PRIMED.
[ Luckily for the executioner, the guilty party here will be treated to those same nasty shocks if they try and attack their executioner or fight back. Of course, if the executioner checks out the terminal, it might not be what they expect. When they boot it up, it's no longer a list of names, but a list of something.

Choose your weapon, executioner. ]
This thread is meant for the guilty and the executioner only.

This sure is happening.
She goes pale as her name is called and the ankle monitor shocks her. There is truly nothing she can do to stop this. It's either go, or — well. Die, probably. So when she steps into the judgement theater, it's with shaky, mechanical steps. The only thing that keeps her from outright refusing to participate at all is the fact that he's guilty, but it sure as heck isn't making this any better.
She bites her lip, glancing at the terminal, and selects the Do-Gooder.
Please don't let it be a blunt weapon.]

Bad news: She still has to shoot Adam in the... face? Neck? Body, with a crossbow. To say her hands are shaking as she sets the weapon up is an understatement, but she knows the rules. Only one of them can come out of here alive, and Adam gave himself up. He knew that would mean dying here.]
Adam... For what it's worth, I'm so sorry. [For Luke. For Lara. She wonders if both of them would be here if it weren't for what happened last week? Probably not.] If there's anything you wish to say — anything at all, please... Say it now, friend.

Instead, he brings out his gun...
And drops it on the floor, then kicks it nearby her. ] Please. Make it quick. Not with the bow, I just... want it quick.
no subject
She still looks pale, but she concedes with a nod, bending down to retrieve the gun with shaky movements.]
I will. I...
[This is fine. Everything is alright. She just has to kill someone with her own hands, and that's so much different than watching bandits and Vault Hunters slaughter each other through a screen. But what's done is done.]
... Thank you, for not allowing someone else to take the fall for you.
[And, yeah. This may very well be the shortest execution, supposing Angel doesn't miss as she aims the gun at his head and fires. Knowledge of guns doesn't equal knowledge of knowing how to aim a gun, after all. Whoops. This may make a bit of a mess.]
no subject
But it's the only thing he can do now. He was always afraid of this gun, his father's gun, being the cause of his death and apparently he was right. But it was his choice, not his father's and maybe that can mean something to him. He chose all of this.
And for that, Angel's aim is good enough to give him a quick death. ]

God.
If anyone's interested in speaking to Angel after the execution, she'll stick around the room for another minute or two before leaving to be by herself. Better catch her before she pulls a disappearing act.]
no subject
well, he didn't really expect her to be the executioner tonight but he figures his offer holds true here.
so, when she stumbles out of the theater, he's pushing through people to make a beeline right towards her and calling out her name. ]
Angel! Hey, Angel! Oh my god, dude.
[ and when he gets there, she is definitely going to be pulled into his arms in a pretty tight hug, one arm around her shoulders while the other holds the back of her head. when he's got her, he lets out a bit of a relieved wheeze. ]
Hooooly shit.
no subject
Alright. Okay. Fine. Don't freak out, buddy.]
I— [Holy shit is right? She feels vaguely icky and it's a weird sensation.] Thank you, friend. But — I'm fine. I promise.
[Even though Adam is the opposite of fine. The revenge murder doesn't distress her, but the fact that it happened because they all messed up... Yikes.]
no subject
That was like the opposite of fine, bro. Have you even killed someone before? Like, what?
[ he pulls back enough to look at her face, concern all over it. ]
I'm really glad you made it quick. Adam didn't deserve anything more. Just quick, simple, a good end to all this crap, ya know? Now he can... well, not start fresh but not deal with the rest of this.
no subject
No, not... directly. Not like this.
[Does guiding Vault Hunters and instructing them to how to kill other people count? No, no it doesn't. Which goes a long way to explain why she's feeling this way after pulling the trigger herself. How the Vault Hunters have fun doing this is suddenly beyond her. God.
But when he pulls back and brings up Adam, she avoids eye contact.]
I wouldn't have been able to do it any other way. [She would have barfed if she had to beat him to death, honestly.] He may have killed Franziska, but he didn't deserve to suffer. He was only avenging Luke — even if he played right into the staff's hands.
no subject
when she makes the clarification of directly, he swallows and feels a familiar guilt in his own stomach as he gives a bit of a nod. ]
I know the feeling.
[ he'll pull back fully then, only with a comforting squeeze to the shoulder before sighing and nodding. ]
He did but, well, he didn't need to confess either, did he? I wonder if they knew he'd do that. Wonder if that was the point.
[ but then he stops, not really wanting to talk about adam's descent into revenge killing at the moment. ]
You should get some rest but -- but tomorrow. Let's get breakfast together. You shouldn't really be alone much after all this.

[Dojima comes by before going out. He's frustrated and rather pissed off, but he's taking the time to at least check on her]
Will you be okay?
no subject
[Yeah, no. She knows she's not fooling anyone. Her legs feel like gelatin and Adam's brain is now splattered all over the ground. Ugh.]
But I will be better once I have some time to... gather my thoughts, I suppose.
no subject
Listen, don't let this overcome you. Talk it with someone you trust. It'll hurt worse if you don't let some steam out as soon as possible.
[Of course Dojima doesn't mean to talk it with him - he doubts he's anywhere near the top of the trusted people list, but the message itself is what matters]
Do you have someone to talk it with?
no subject
obnoxious roommate the first is quick on the scene when she emerges, looking actually concerned. ]
Angel! Angel, are you okay? Shit, man, when they called your name...
no subject
I— Yes. I'm okay. [Physically.] It isn't as if Adam had a chance to... attack me.
[She almost wishes he did. It would have felt fairer, in a way? Apparently, a moving target is more acceptable to her.]
no subject
[ and she knows it, but he won't be a brat and say that, for once in his life. she doesn't look so great. Steve's not great at comforting people, but he knows when he has to at least try. There's an awkward silence for a second; he clenches and unclenches his fists. ]
Don't -- let it get to you. He was guilty and you're not. [ is the best he can do. ]
no subject
[She's more or less hugging herself, fingers digging into her upper arms despite the pain from her wound. Veronica shattering the glass window seems so stupidly far away now. She doesn't know what to make of it.]
... Have you ever killed someone before, Steve? It's not as pleasant an experience as I had imagined it to be.
[Which is a very disturbing thing to say, but when your friends are heroic sociopaths and your dad a mass murderer...]
no subject
Depends on what you consider "someone" and what you don't. I've killed plenty of things that used to be someone. [ something he doesn't sound conflicted about. He loves guns, loves danger, loves the thrill - provided he has some degree of control over it all. So, not like this. ] ... I've never had someone throw me a gun and tell me to kill them, though.
[ he imagines it would be unpleasant. ]
no subject
Angel? How are you feeling?
[he's lingering around at least, the weenie is Attempting]
no subject
I'm okay. [Even though her legs and hands are probably shaking.] I— Thank you for asking, Guy.
no subject
Are you sure about that? You don't look okay. No one would blame you for not being fine after what you just had to do.
