trial #3

DAY 6 (afternoon)
Complex Population: 27

At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom.

"Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level."

Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need.

As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in.

You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is.

Now listen up, everybody. I'm sure we're all over Adam for telling the sob story of how Luke was the most precious man on earth. I'd punch him for just being a selfish and insolent brat, but the fact is, this is all just a distraction.

[Alfendi Layton, taking the floor in a very, VERY rude fashion. He kind of looks like he's going to keel over, but at least his anger is keeping him going? No one knows for how long that will be, though...]

Don't forget, there's more than twenty of us here. We're here to catch staff members that we're sure are staff members, not anyone who has a damn death wish! The fact that Fransizka was a medical staff member and was killed after aggressively going after people is interesting. Either our staff had to know what she was, or she got far too close to the truth in the last trial.

[ snorts at the part about adam, but doesn't disagree. ]

Does anyone know if Miss von Karma gave any hints as to her role in the past few days? I saw none, but I didn't speak much with her. She had such a limited vocabulary. [ fool. foolhardy. foolish. tomfoolery. ] But I do think her work last trial did make her a target-- she was the one to suggest Luke, was she not? Along with Elizabeth and Lara, the latter of which was innocent.
selfdenying: (then you're cold)

[personal profile] selfdenying 2016-10-22 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I think she made a lucky guess. Lara was innocent, and Elizabeth was only included because of tangential evidence. I could hardly say she's staff just because of that. She did have a bigger list, before, didn't she? I don't think I wrote it down.

[He shakes his head.]

But I think the first one was likely - the fact that she was going after people in the first place and mentioned something about "protecting people", as someone just said...well, that would paint the nice target on her back, right?

I wouldn't doubt it. Did she? Nor did I, I only heard the part about the three. Perhaps the vote about Jefferey distracted me.

[ shrug. ]

Yes, it certainly would. I know that if I were one of the staff, I'd take the cautious route and eliminate such a person, rather than pick someone at random as the other deaths seem to have been.

I may be wrong, but — didn't Franziska claim she would "protect" whoever voted for Diva during the last trial? And now, Judy has informed us her role had the ability to protect someone from the staff. It doesn't strike me as a coincidence, assuming the staff knew someone could have an ability like that.

[personal profile] grimdeity 2016-10-22 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, did she? That certainly doesn't sound like a coincidence. It would have been in the staff's best interest to eliminate a person who could obstruct them like that, whether she had been headstrong last trial or not.

And they would have been able to to avenge Luke's death, too, regardless of her role. Quite the twofer, if I do say so myself.

There was one thing I heard her and Adam going on about. They were trying to find the one person that voted Diva during the first trial. She was vouching herself as being able to protect the one that came out and admitted to it... for some reason. I ― and I'm guessing mostly everyone else ― chalked it up to a lawyer just being a lawyer and talking bigger than she was.

Could have been wrong. Obviously was.

[He flips through his notebook to confirm. Looks like he didn't overhear that conversation.]

What an idiot, telling it like that. And I suppose there's no way to tell who overheard that conversation and who didn't?

Nope. Public setting. We're all here, regardless of who likes to talk and who doesn't. One of them could have easily heard it and passed the info along.

I heard it and assumed she was simply being overconfident. We did not learn about the six until after, during the execution. When we heard about it, a few people put forth that she might be among their number, but I believed her to have simply been overconfident as I assumed...which I told you all as much later that night.

[ OBVIOUSLY, SHE WAS WRONG? ]

I hadn't figured someone with that kind of presumed advantage would give it away so easily. I suppose she meant well, but it was idiotic.

I assumed something was wrong before the six were announced. A woman who fought so valiantly and with such passion has reason to. I don't doubt her intelligence and drive, but I believed she was claiming to offer such a safety as a staff member. Lure out a lamb so they can slaughter it easier.

[ Boy was she wrong! ]

Since trying to discover who knew about Franziska's role doesn't seem to be leading us anywhere, I would suggest we pursue a— another— achoo!

[There goes snot, all over her hands. This is disgusting. She is going to die. But she is just going to carefully clasp her hands together and pretend that didn't just happen. Kill her. Or find her some tissues. Either one works.]

... I'm sorry. As I was saying— we should pursue another route. Perhaps think about who we suspect to be staff at this moment, or who we believe could have armed Kei, if we choose to focus on that murder as well.

[personal profile] liven 2016-10-22 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously Bigby didn't arm Kei. It's obvious, but may be worth saying. I find it unlikely that any of the rest of us in room 7 were the ones to arm him, either.

[ because they would have made damn fucking sure he killed someone away from their territory, in her opinion? ]

I find it unlikely, too. Telling Kei to murder someone in your own "home turf" seems a little... short sighted. And messy.

[That blood won't clean itself up??? Shout-out to whoever thought arming Kei and siccing on him on Bigby was a good idea.]

[ stares at angel's hands. at least wipe it on someone unlikable, yeesh girl. ]

If we wanted to be here for a week, I'd say we could go through everyone one by one and list off why they might or might not be staff.

Presumably, at least one staff member went about arming Kei and at least one other would have been responsible for Franziska's murder. Assuming they know how to divvy up duties, anyway.

[Look. Shove someone unlikable at her and she'll """accidentally""" wipe her hands on them.]

But according to Judy, Kei was armed by two of the six who were mentioned to be working against the staff. That means we're looking and two entirely different sets of culprits this time.

...you fell in the water too, huh.

[Alice recognizes the symptoms... she looks a little like she might throw up, herself, but at least she's managing to stand and lug Leo around.]

Anyway. I'm sure whoever armed Kei is going to say that they thought they were doing a good thing by making it possible for him to defend himself against who he thought was a staff member, but the fact is they're not innocent in this at all. If Bigby had died, they would have been just as responsible for his murder as Kei would have been.

I did. It was not my greatest moment, I admit.

[But at least she's not Rhys or Jack, both of who are... probably in the corner. Feeling miserable. It's like #borderlands karma.]

I agree. And we need to consider Bigby stated that Kei tried to kill him as a "favor" to someone. I would say that makes them responsible for Kei's death, as well. He wouldn't have been in your apartment if no one had armed him and sent him off to kill a person they suspected.
