trial #3

DAY 6 (afternoon)
Complex Population: 27

At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom.

"Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level."

Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need.

As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in.

You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is.

If we assume the staff were taking the feet--the monitors--and their kills had been more brutal, would you say this may have been done by someone else?

It's hard to say. They hear us talking. They hear us interacting. They could have seen us pick up on the trail with the ankle monitors and changed methods.

[ She has no clue, actually... but it makes sense. ]

If the monitors could be used in any way against them, I can see why they would take every precaution to remove them when they made a kill. It's only logical.

But it seems suspicious that Franziska was killed as others had been in the same room, yet her foot was not removed. I think someone else may have done it.

Besides the staff, who also didn't like Franziska?

The better question was who did?

[ No, this was not the time. But, Elizabeth muses to herself. ]

People had problems with her treatment of the results - Bigby and myself certainly had our issues with her. Possibly Adam since Luke was - ... well, you know.

[ But, she didn't see Adam confront the woman. ]

Why do you believe someone else had done this? Two murder attempts and neither of them are staff? I don't feel like that's likely.

Minatsuki is still missing, presumably dead. That could have been the staff's target, since she was also not an adult.

[From where he is, Ciel regards Bigby for a bit, then looks back at Elizabeth.] I don't think Franziska would go down so easily based on what we had seen of her. In Bigby's altercation, he received injuries.

Whoever killed Franziska likely will also have injuries, ones fresher than those from the glass breaking. [He points to the wound on his brow. A bit irritated because of the eyepatch, but healing.]

That's a valid theory, but then the question becomes - who are the two that tried to kill Bigby or killed Franziska? The timing Dazai brings up makes me believe the two are separate cases.

[ But, she perks a brow. ]

So you're assuming we should start asking around for injuries?

Bigby's story and injuries match fairly accurately to being attacked and using self-defense.

[There's a small shrug of his shoulders.] The probability of finding someone who had been injured by Franziska in a struggle is high, unless she had been drugged. Did it seem like she moved?

Otherwise, we'll be exactly as we had been last trial.

There was no blood trail, but bruises on her knees and shoulders. I'm not a coroner so I can't really say.

[ Elizabeth sighs a bit, looking down at her hand. ]

Maybe you should bring the concerns up? Rally the troupes for us to look for wounds?

[ She can't really think Bigby was involved in this since the distance was obviously mismatched with the time. There would be too much evidence. ]
