DAY 6 (afternoon) Complex Population: 27 At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom. "Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level." Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need. As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in. Correct. Revealing the votes is unconventional, since the anonymity is a courtesy, but there is no regulation against it.

[ There's a pause like Judy is considering something ]

For the purpose of your request, it is somewhat irrelevant, but as this would be setting a precedent, I would at least like to lay a ground rule. I will not reveal all of the votes from a previous trial. But I will reveal all votes associated with one choice, where all of you may pick whichever choice you are interested in.

Okay, everyone! You all heard Judy, right? She'll tell us the names of people who voted, but she'll only reveal who voted for a single choice.

So... since someone isn't telling the truth about abstaining, do we want to ask her about that?

If we ask for who voted Abstain, we'll get three names and know who is a liar. That's pretty much a safe bet. There's another option, too.

But there's something else we can do: ask who voted for Lara. Not only we'd get eight names to deal with, and a reference for future trials if more people die. It's not guaranteed we'd get one of the four who supposedly abstained in that list, but if it's a staff member it's possible their name would appear there too. It's a risk I'd be personally be willing to take.

Besides, in the future we could have the option to ask who voted abstain in the second trial, wouldn't we? Someone should check with Judy.

We should consider what we'll do in future trials too.

It'll allow us to question the one who is lying about their vote, if nothing else.

I would be willing to offer it in future trials, but that is my choice. I will make a decision based on this exercise.
