DAY FIVE
![]() Complex Population: ??? It's 8AM, and you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always. There's breakfast avaliable in the cafeteria if you want it, as well as meals from 11AM-12PM and 7PM-8PM, but otherwise? The day is yours. Take your time to explore the complex, relax, and enjoy each others' company, as who knows what the next day has in store? Though as you explore, you may notice that there's a new door unlocked and a new place for you to spend the day. Even better, it's two rooms! You'll find a dated computer lab, but at least you can play classics like Kid Pix and Ski Free. Connected to the lab is also a small movie theater, though the movie selection only goes up to 1940... Also, anyone taking a stroll by the fountain this morning may notice something odd about it. The water is red. This post is for the first day as defined in the schedule. This post is for general mingling and CR buidling, and will not include significant plot interaction. ic rulebook character statuses character profiles private conversations graveyard |

[Any normal person would be able to pick up on the fact that Bigby doesn't seem to want company. Alice, being Alice, picks up on it but doesn't leave. ...but at least she doesn't deliberately poke at it too much, either. Instead, she just takes a seat and folds her hands on her lap.]
They have other things to watch, too. If you'd rather watch some of those.

[ and secrets are bound to get people killed here, but he's pretty sure this is harmless. ―okay, not really. if people believed he was what this cartoon was trying to present itself to its audience, they would know they're in a courtroom with a literal wolf. that doesn't normally bode well with people that are paranoid. ]
No. ―... no. I kind of need to get through this. It's been a long time since I've seen them last.
[ like, close to seventy years maybe? ]
I won't be hogging the screen for long if you got something else you want to watch. They're both pretty short.

[She'll probably end up becoming a little tyrant in the entertainment theater, provided she doesn't get lynched for being super sketchy and suspicious.
For now, though, she'll... go silent for a little bit while watching the animated short play out on screen. Huh. She tilts her head to one side, considering it, and then waits for a little while longer before she speaks up again.]
They don't have stories like this where I come from. [She's never actually heard of the big, bad wolf before now.] With so many of us here from different places... I wonder if there are others who haven't heard this story yet, either?
[It's a really roundabout way of trying to make him feel better, or something. Alice is bad at the whole sympathy thing, even with people she doesn't hate.]

[ he smiles weakly, prodding at her just a tad. after he watches these two and moves on with his life, he'll probably never come back unless dragged. silent movies and other ancient cartoons weren't really his thing, ironically enough.
the wolf that is, uh, satirized to say the least, appears on screen while Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf plays. there's an audible groan from Bigby as he resists the urge to plug his ears, listening instead to Alice's attempt at comfort. ]
Mm. It's likely. People from Earth, like we mentioned last night? Chances are they know of this one. This story's been on books, movies, cartoons, songs... Kind of hard to get away from it, really.
[ she's trying, though?? good for her. ]

[No she isn't... case in point: even though she's trying to kind of, sort of be nice, she also can't help but chuckle when he groans as the wolf appears on screen and the music starts to play.
Even when it comes from someone she kind of likes, other people's suffering amuses her.]
People from Earth must not have a whole lot of imagination, if they just end up telling the same stories over and over again! But at least, aside from this, you don't have to worry about people trying to tell the story here, right? We all have other things on our minds right now.

Eh... there's a lot of stories like this, to say the least. But people like to take their own spin on it. Change a couple things to make them funnier or "scarier". [ nothing more scary than reality, but most don't know that. ] You're right, though. Assholes on Earth have a real issue with redundancy.
[ Alice talks about other things on people's minds and she's right again. she doesn't know about the Big Bad Wolf and just how bad he actually is. a lot of people here wouldn't. yet here he is, watching the damn thing that would present questions. what the hell. ]
And you? Any stories that kind of follow you around?
no subject
...just because they changed the story doesn't mean it actually happened that way, right?
[The only ones who would know would be the people who were actually there.
At his question, she shrugs.]
Not the same way as these. The one story that everyone knows back home is the story of the Hero Mithos and the Goddess Martel, but it's a load of crock. [She makes a face.] People believe it, though. That almost makes it worse.
no subject
... Right. Doesn't mean people think about that, though. Once upon a time, a story like this could have been considered real. Then they go and butcher it to the point of becoming non-recognizable.
[ not that the real story was anymore sensible. a giant wolf the size of a house killing and eating hundreds of people only to be gutted, filled with rocks and trapped in the bottom of a river for two weeks was just as insane if not more-so. but it was the truth, and that was what mattered. ]
Sounds almost... religious. The one and only story you know ties into religion? Damn. I'm sorry.
[ he's not the religious type either. ]
no subject
[Or at least, the people who do that kind of story-butchering on... just make up your own stories instead of hecking up other ones, geeze.
Alice puffs her cheeks out for a second. Honestly, thinking about the Church of Martel just makes her mad, which is unfortunate, because it's so prevalent back in her world. She supposes that's one of the nice things about being here - no pushy priests.]
It's the entire basis for the religion back there. Honestly, what's the point in believing in any kind of god or goddess? Even if they did exist, it's not like they help when it matters, and anyone who believes otherwise is just too weak and pathetic to realize it.

[ said with what sounds like a bit of defeat, slumping further down his chair as the end of the first animation comes to. the titular film of your's truly comes rearing its ugly face and he couldn't be anymore happier talking about gods and goddesses that Alice seemingly hates. ]
Eh. People need a support system. Religion provides that for some folk. They give themselves up to a god... or goddess... and hope for the best. I'm not saying it's smart, but there are some that need that kind of crutch.
[ he's sensing a bit of bitterness from the girl that likes torture and is apparently bloodthirsty. hmmm. it's all making sense. ]
Still, can't believe that's the only thing that you get to listen to back where you're from. Stories have been botched to hell, but they're still at least entertaining. Sometimes they offer something to learn from.
[ just don't go asking him to tell her a story of his own. except do it. make him suuuufferrrr. ]

[The last word is hissed with no small amount of venom, and a moment later, Alice blinks a few times as she realized she's let a bit more slip than she really meant to. She manages a light giggle and shakes her head.]
Wow, I got a little intense there. Sorry you had to see that. ♡ Forget all about it, okay?
[Then she shrugs.]
There are other stories, of course, but none as widespread as that one. It's probably one of the only ones that anyone from my world be able to tell you, like you were talking about with that one. [And then she nods to the screen in order to indicate what he'd been watching.]
no subject
You want me to forget that, but remember all the other fucked up shit you say? Okay. No problem.
[ it's sad that she can be so damned cute when she wants to be, too. makes everything all the more confusing when it comes to trying to figure out what her deal is. ]
If and when you get out of here, maybe you should think about spreading some new ones. Preferably... not this one, thanks.

[She smiles easily - and the smile looks more natural on her face than one might expect from someone who's so willing to go along with ideas like "we could torture them for information" or "let's cut off a foot to get rid of this ankle monitor".]
That's not a bad idea. I guess it wouldn't hurt for me to watch some of these other things, to pass them on. [She giggles.] On the other hand... you can tell stories about the amazing Lady Alice and how great she is all you want when you get home. ♡
[When. Not if.
She's not accepting any sort of "if" about this.]
