DAY FIVE
![]() Complex Population: ??? It's 8AM, and you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always. There's breakfast avaliable in the cafeteria if you want it, as well as meals from 11AM-12PM and 7PM-8PM, but otherwise? The day is yours. Take your time to explore the complex, relax, and enjoy each others' company, as who knows what the next day has in store? Though as you explore, you may notice that there's a new door unlocked and a new place for you to spend the day. Even better, it's two rooms! You'll find a dated computer lab, but at least you can play classics like Kid Pix and Ski Free. Connected to the lab is also a small movie theater, though the movie selection only goes up to 1940... Also, anyone taking a stroll by the fountain this morning may notice something odd about it. The water is red. This post is for the first day as defined in the schedule. This post is for general mingling and CR buidling, and will not include significant plot interaction. ic rulebook character statuses character profiles private conversations graveyard |

[ His question has her look to him with a laugh. ]
They were the funniest duo in Columbia! Remember, boys and girls, don't be a Dimwit! They were funnier when I was younger... [ A bit bitterly, she adds... ] But, they were the only cartoons I was allowed to view.

[ he's not about to outright answer why these cartoons were so distasteful to him. Elizabeth should understand and appreciation a little apprehension considering her previous stance on things. Bigby is aware that sitting here, clearly and dreadfully watching something that pains him would yield questions. considering it should just be simple, old-fashioned animation as well... ]
I mean, that's as good of a guess as any. [ he actually laughs a little bit, even if it's underneath his breath. Bigby didn't have a childhood. not as a human, anyway. ] It's kind of personal. The story... means more to me than you would think. Have you ever heard of The Big Bad Wolf or The Three Little Pigs where you're from?
[ ... which wasn't Rapture, apparently? that gets his hands to lower themselves, looking at the woman with lowered eyebrows. he leans in closer to her in case there may have been others walking in or out. ]
I don't remember you ever recalling a place called Columbia.

Why was he so infuriating at times? He dodges the question and she pinches her nose with her good hand a bit. Sighing heavily, she won't push the subject. As he talks about the big bad wolf and other story tales, she glances over. She can only guess that maybe he heard stories from a father or mother? Maybe it's tied to a memory? ]
Who hasn't? Aesop's Fables are classics. Huff and puff and - well, you know the rest.
[ Oh. Does he? Does he really? There's a few seats dividing them, so his hushed tone talks about Columbia, she'll look down to her lap. It's obvious she came for rest but the conversation was alright... ]
...I'm from Columbia. I left there not too long ago. I've been in Rapture since. [ She knows the names mean nothing to him and maybe if he asks, she'll indulge. ] ...Both cities, I'm not too fond of.
no subject
so yeah, he keeps his lips tight. he avoids direct answers even as he puts attention on himself in watching these stupid films. the overly satirized version of the Big Bad Wolf comes on screen and he clearly grimaces as she brings up Aesop's Fables. ]
Heh. So you only know the original? That's cute. Probably the best version out of them all. [ except for the true Fable. or him. he'd like to say he's pretty ok, except that's an outright lie. ] ―Don't... finish that sentence.
[ he doesn't want to hear about houses blowing down right now. talk about war flashbacks that would show too much damage in his face, yielding further questions. at least they were diverting the subject to her origins, which was both hypocritical and useful. Bigby isn't going to feel bad for that. ]
Oh. So you're really from Columbia? ... Was this "Dickhead & Duke" show a thing in both your towns?
[ that's his way of asking. ]
no subject
[ Overprotective family? Yeah. Definitely. But, he pushes his question about Columbia, she smiles. Even if it kind of hurts to think about the floating city. ]
Right. I don't think you've heard of the city. [ Universes, etc. But, she'll narrow her eyes and correct him with a harsh tone. ] Dimwit and Duke... No, there wasn't anything like that in Rapture. Which was... a bit surprising. There's usually -
[ Equivalencies. Constants and variables. She shakes her head, right around the time his cartoon finished. Shockingly enough, another film reel begins and soon Gone with the Wind plays. ]
Oh! ...This is a good one!

[ he doesn't sound bitter at all, nooo. fortunately enough, the second film rolls through its credits and Bigby can find himself feeling more at peace with himself. his head turns to Elizabeth to look at her attentively, listening as she explains the differences and nuances between the two cities. ]
Sounds like you still have a few things to hold onto. Like Dickhead & Duke. [ a smile. he teases. ] What made you go to Rapture? If you don't mind my asking. It wasn't for better cartoons, I'm guessing.
[ with Gone with the Wind's opening song playing, he realized there was a movie that the both of them had known. huh. constants and variables sounds about right. ]

[ so she asks in the most casual way possible, trying to bait him for more information. If he is to bring up things about her, she will do the same in response.
Except he pries a bit more and her gaze meets his. She's wearing less make up, maybe only lipstick on lazy lips. His question, was a good one. ]
Right, they're the highlight of my youth. You've guessed so well! [ she teases when gone with the wind begins rolling, the music calming and familiar even if she had only heard about it through the electronics stories in Rapture. ] I wish I could... remember. All I remember is that it wasn't Columbia. It wasn't -
[ Her tower... ]
It was built by a man named Andrew Ryan. A real ambitious son of a bitch. Wanted to create a city where the gifted man can bring about a change, the artist bringing his muse to life - he wanted a place where he can be God, I think.
[ and finally - ]
He founded the world's first invite-only underwater city.

[ even as the black and white of another film begins to transition into its first few minutes, they were still talking about what was on the screen before. it's expected. Elizabeth may not know how she feels in regards to Bigby, but she still seemed to be curious regarding what his whole thing was about. whether he owed it to her to learn is up in the air, but at the very least, it wasn't looking to be one-sided. ]
Rapture, an invite-only underwater city. Huh. And let me guess, Columbia was a fucking city in the sky?
[ WELL I MEAN... ]
no subject
...Right. I hope the story came to an end then.
[ Oh, she's not sure how on the nose she was. Bigby presses on and there's a sudden laugh. A burst of it, really. After how tired she was, he sees her tilt her head towards him, resting her head against the back of the seat more comfortably, as if she was somber. ]
Would you believe it if I said yes?
no subject
before she gets to have her spurt of laughter, he will have his. it's in reference to how the story's hopefully ended. Bigby rocks his head back into the seat he was resting in, chuckling up towards the ceiling. he's fumbling through his pockets for his cigarettes, pulling two sticks out and promptly offering Elizabeth one. she's earned that much. ]
I don't know how to answer that. It's hard to tell if this isn't all some fucked up chapter to add to the book.
[ so many analogies, so little time. it was her turn to have her fun, however, leading him to wonder how accurate he could have been. when she leads him to believe it is, his eyebrows immediately narrow in her direction instead of the screen. ]
Fuck no. But I wouldn't have believed any of the shit we've seen here, either. You... get around, miss.
no subject
Such is life. [ She says with a wave of her hand, keeping the cigarette between her fingers. She doesn't clue into what he really means though... ] I guess the best thing you can do is try and make it a damn good end. Some don't get that luxury.
[ There's a hint of sadness there, but Elizabeth is now seen slipping her heels off and getting comfortable. Practically, she's looking more relaxed than she had been in a while and maybe? She is. The lull of background music and soft cushions makes her feel at ease...
He makes mention of her getting around and she smiles. ]
No, not really. You'd be surprised.
[ :) Only towers and escaping problems. ]
I'd rather keep to myself nowadays. There's too much... badness in the world. Too much sin.

Most don't know when their story's ending. Not even me. I have a better idea than most, at least.
[ :')
he leans back and settles in a bit more than when he was watching the parodied version of himself. their conversation wasn't as heavy or distressed as the ones that led up to this. it was... nice, to an extent, even if there was hardly anything that can be described as such within the complex. ]
I don't know. Underwater city, city in the clouds... now this. It's more than most people. [ towers or not. ] And I get that. ―Also more than most people. Here's to hoping you have that chance once you get out of here.

Didn't picture you as a fan of storybooks or cartoons. Learn something new everyday. What was your favorite? Obviously nothing with the 3 Little Pigs.
[ She's totally comfortable, leaning over almost closer, just keep awake. He sees her eyes flutter and head snap back to try and keep herself awake. ]
Hope we do. I miss the sun.
[ It was objectively silly in the long run... She had wanted to really go ahead and go to Rapture for - for some reason...? She can't remember what brought her and Booker there but now that [redacted] happened, she can't remember the warmth from the sun. She misses it. And as she shuts her eyes, she'll whisper: ]
I miss dancing...
[ Snore. ]
