DAY 4 (afternoon) Complex Population: 32 At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom. "Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level." Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need. As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in. Apparently voting for Judy is an option...

... I'm not sure if we should resort to killing our only source of outside help. She's in the same situation as we are, isn't she?

[Ankle monitor. Boss(es?) can kill her. So. Though "help" is very subjective, she knows.]

Is she really helping us? I don't think she's done much. She has information that she's not giving out, yeah, but will she give that to us?

[injectors]

Not unless we strike another deal with her, I'm sure.

[Sighs. This can only end terribly? Cool.]

We don't know how deep her involvement runs. It may — pardon my language — come back to bite us in the butt, but I understand why it's an option if we can't come to a consensus.

Judy is the one keeping this crap monitored, and I'm fairly certain she's in charge of getting new food stock here. She dies and we may starve.

Not to mention she's not in the facility, according to her claims. We should focus on people who may have been actually involved in the murders.

It's a potentially risky option, though.

I know. I can get why people wouldn't want to. It's just... an option I thought we should talk about since we're having a hard time with the people here.

Even if we went with it, it would only buy us a little time. We'll still have to vote for one of us if anyone else ends up dead.

I get why people would want to... but I don't think it's a very good idea. Not right now, anyway.

[chiseler]

Really. [This is news to him, so he's lifting an eyebrow.] What would be the pros and cons of that?

I don't know. What are the pros and cons of killing someone innocent?

[chiseler]

[There's a sigh and he nudges at the side of Adam's head carefully because his nose is still somewhat sore.]

I'm just asking. I'd be all for killing Judy if I wasn't worried somehow this would backfire spectacularly. At least if we focus on a person, we have a little more control. That doesn't mean I like any of this any more than you do.

Do we know if she's a person or a program?

No. I think she's a person but Luke has told me he thinks she's a program.

If she's a person, we're risking killing another innocent being. Furthermore, she's the one helping us out here.

[ ....folding her arms. ] If she's a program, I'd be willing to try and ask some of the programmers if they can bring her back afterwards.... somehow. Perhaps one of the terminals can be broken through?

Person. I asked her and she told me she was human. I don't see a reason for her to lie.

That sounds like an idea that could go very, very badly.

That's true. It's an option we can keep in mind for later, once we understand more.

That's terrifying. What if she runs the commissary and functions of the complex?

I don't know. Maybe the program shuts down. Maybe we all die here.

I don't trust her, but who's to say we'll be better off without her?

I have no idea. I can't say either way. But apparently it's been built into the system.

Voting to abstain was an option as well. Look how well that went for us.

I think all we have are bad options, sure. We still have to pick one.

Probably not a very good one, though. [That's why he hasn't brought it up, even though he asked.] It's possible she's the only one who can show us where the exit is.

But she's not doing that.
