DAY 4 (afternoon) Complex Population: 32 At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom. "Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level." Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need. As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in. Hey everyone.  So first off: sorry about all your wounds from this morning. I got carried away when I saw my first punch made a crack in the wall,  and didn't realize I would destroy the entire wall like that.

That aside,  there's something else I want to bring up that I noticed... [And that's when she turns to look at Alfendi] Alfendi, you've been having memory issues haven't you?  I want to ask for how long.

And please don't take this the wrong way.  I'm not accusing you of anything,  but I want to know if anyone else has had issues similar? 

Because after the glass broke,  you completely snapped at me and told me we never once talked. Then you blacked out in front of me,  and you were acting like we didn't just have an argument.  You even remembered our talk at the gym perfectly,  even a minute ago you told me you didn't remember.

If you're experiencing these kind of memory issues, I wonder if anyone else has. It would be a huge issue if true.

[Oh, dear, he's being put on the spot. He doesn't seem annoyed - he just seems embarrassed, like he wasn't expecting for this topic to be brought up in front of the crowd.]

...If I have to be honest, I didn't really notice much of anything until I talked with Dojima before the first trial. We were discussing the profiles, and he said I should be a detective, with the skills I have listed under my profile, but...I don't remember ever having that profession or applying to be one. I feel like I should remember, but it escaped me, and still does.

[A pause.] I waved it aside at that moment, but then, at the trial, Diva said something interesting...she said that she had the funny feeling that she remembered someone like Charles, a "knight" of sorts, but she didn't know why. I haven't noticed anyone else experience anything of the like, but I can't help but feel that something's off with me, for sure - I'm certainly not liable to keep blacking out every so often as I have been doing for the last few days.

You did black out while we were talking before... and you acted differently then, too. So it's not just her who's noticed that.

I can remember everything I've done since coming here, but there are some things that are a little... hazy...? When I try to think back on them. I don't know if it's just because it's been awhile, or if they really are doing something to our memories. But whatever they're doing, I think you're getting the worst of it.

...that being the case, you're probably not a staff member. It would be too obvious. If anything, if they are responsible for your blackouts, I think they're trying to make a red herring out of you.

Did I? I was feeling sick around the time Charles' body appeared, I wonder if it happened then...but what are you saying, I acted differently?

[What the actual hell? He shudders, his fingers curling at his sides, trying his best to rationalize what he's hearing.]

Is that so? [He shakes his head, frowning.] Alice, what...what did I say when I thought I had fainted? What am I doing when I'm like...whatever I'm like?

[Alice thinks back, and this morning's outburst is a lot more clear in her mind than the one from a couple of days ago, so she'll go with that.] I'll act it out for you.

[She takes a breath and opens her mouth to speak - then gets cut off by a coughing fit. Once she's over that, though, she makes a face and starts again, contorting her expression into a scowl and jabbing a finger accusingly at Alfendi's chest.]

This bloody-! What the hell did this, who's the little twit that did this?!! I'm going to make them swallow down and choke on some glass if I have anything to say about it-!

[...she got it word for word, too. Impressive.]

Oh...oh goodness.

[He kind of looks like one of those little old ladies who clutches their string of pearls at the mention of anything offensive, he looks that shocked.]

That...that can't be! I would never say anything like that-! Y-You must be joking.

We all saw it happen. You really lost it this morning.

[She doesn't apologize, because it's just the truth.]

The question is, what makes it happen? It happened both times you saw the bodies, but that's not something we can test... [Unless someone wants to volunteer to die right here DAZAI WHERE ARE YOU]

Actually, there was a couple of times besides the bodies when I blacked out. One was near the commissary...

[He gulps, suddenly looking a little horrified, like he's suddenly just had a shocking realization.]

I had a notebook with me when I came to at that time. And it was filled with the info from the commissary, with my writing, like I had been taking notes...

But...I don't ever remember writing all that stuff down...

I also have some hazy memories of the past...but since coming here, nothing is strange about what I can remember. So, that particular issue is probably universal...?

That much is, I think. Alfendi's condition seems to be unique - that is, I haven't seen anyone else flip out the way he does when he blacks out.

But it is interesting. How can they make something like that happen to just you, and what causes it? If we can figure that out, we might figure out something about why we're all here.

I agree. [Of course you do, Leo... but no, it's actually a good point. Sorry Alfendi.] If we're all having trouble with our memories, then they must've done something to alter our minds, right? And if they did something differently to you, maybe it will help us figure out more about this place.

Yeah, my memories of the past seem clouded too, but I mean more of a short term memory loss. That seems to be Alfendi's issue, and I want to know if anyone else has experienced it?

[He hasn't exactly experienced Alfendi's brand of short-term memory loss, but he listens to the description and it sure does sound very familiar to him.]

I think all of us are missing something, but not to that extent. [He frowns a little at that.] I was trying to tell someone a story and had to stop because I couldn't remember parts of it. But everybody's got stuff like that, right? Little things that just don't add up.

[He glances at Alfendi then as well.] You think maybe that's something that started for him here and the rest of us are gonna have to deal with it too?

Yeah I think we can agree. I'm just wondering what's going on with him, and to see if anyone else is acting the same way. If it's him alone, then I think it must be an isolated case. Something that happened before he came here maybe.

Guess the real question is do you think it's something we have to worry about in terms of people getting hurt?

I think we all are experiencing some sort of loss.
