trial #2

DAY 4 (afternoon)
Complex Population: 32

At noon, the same tone from the morning rings out, and Judy's voice filters out over the intercom.

"Good afternoon, residents. As per Safety Protocol 6227-A, it is time to conduct a trial to bring justice for the victim. Please proceed to the courtroom on the first level."

Just as at night, if you don't go to the courtroom, you'll be treated to an electric shock of increasing strength until you go to the courtroom or are unconscious. Though considering the ominous penalty for not participating in a trial, you should likely just go rather than risk not voting because you've been knocked out by your own stubbornness... Once you're in the courtroom, you'll find that bottled water and light snacks are provided, but otherwise you'll have to bring anything else you may need.

As you come to your conclusions about who to vote for, you can step into the judgement theater to cast your vote at the terminal. You may change your vote as many times as you'd like, but at 7PM, your vote (or lack thereof) is locked in.

You have until 7PM to discuss and vote for who you think the murderer is.

[Despite a rather bland, flat look, Ciel seems unbothered by the accusation of being a little turd. (He's heard worse.)]

Would it be a mistake if you really were one of the staff?
heroizes: (and I guess you’ll write their)

[ Look you can't call a thirteen year old a [CENSORED], Jack has standards ]

...Well, technically, technically, no, but. I'm not?
alittlemaster: <user name=mewtube site=livejournal.com> (Ay go and rock with it.)

It's hard to go on your word without evidence. Your credentials make you a likely culprit, and those are things we have to consider.

... Why would a staff member put that information down if it would incriminate them?

[personal profile] alittlemaster 2016-10-15 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't know. It could be they had no control over what was put down.

[personal profile] antietam 2016-10-15 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
How is that possible? They have control over everything else.

[Ciel sighs.]

I own a company. The staff I hire don't have the ability to make management decisions. They just work for me. They don't tell me what I can make or sell.

[ What. He's going to assume this is a hypothetical scenario since that seems more likely than a 13 year old owning a company. ]

Sure, but why would the management put their staff in harm's way? Unless you think we're supposed to find them and execute them? I don't know why the staff would agree to this, then.

[Wow, excuse me! He does so own a WHOLE company!! All by himself! All of it! He made it from the ground up!]

I don't know all the details. I'm only making educated guesses. My staff are separate from me. I don't know them on a personal level, not usually.

When I make changes to our company structure or our products, they don't know until it's already done. They are required to do their job regardless of how they feel about these decisions.

[ He sure is dedicated to this unrealistic metaphor?? ]

So in theory they could also be unwilling participants in the game, simply working for their own survival like we are.

Our real target would be the person in charge, then. But I doubt they're even around.

[ (◕ ‿ ◕❀)† ]

Our only other option is to try to get out of this facility. People are going to continue to die, however. We have to chose for the trial, or it will just be randomized. But randomization could be better on people's consciences, I'd imagine.

Except for the chosen killer.

I think we'd all prefer not to abstain. At least, assuming everyone among us wants to live, we wouldn't want any chance of getting killed. Especially in such a horrible way.

That means most people are going to be trying to point the finger at someone before time is up.
alittlemaster: (I heard a whisper on my shoulder.)

[personal profile] alittlemaster 2016-10-15 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone would prefer not to abstain, but instead would be willing to baselessly accuse and vote for one person they think may be a murderer?

Sounds idiotic.
heroizes: by which i mean don't judge me (no third)

[personal profile] heroizes 2016-10-15 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, consider it all you want, kiddo. That's why I'm throwin' it out there that it might not even be because someone wants to use the damn things. Because if I get killed because, wow, I'm a programmer and an engineer? I'm gonna be pissed.

[ a pause, and then: ]

Which is actually putting it lightly.

[personal profile] alittlemaster 2016-10-15 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You would be dead.
heroizes: (where you check out)

...Okay, that is a fair point, but- Look. Shut up.

[ he's eloquent ]
