DAY 3 Complex Population: 33 It's 8AM, and you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always. There's breakfast avaliable in the cafeteria if you want it, as well as meals from 11AM-12PM and 7PM-8PM, but otherwise? The day is yours. Take your time to explore the complex, relax, and enjoy each others' company, as who knows what the next day has in store? Though as you explore, you may notice that there's a new door unlocked and a new place for you to spend the day. There's a workshop and tinkering lab that you can now access. It includes everything from power tools to more terminals (so no need to crowd around the commissary terminal to chat with Judy anymore). As tempting as all these tools may be, they cannot be removed from the lab. Only completed projects may be taken out of the lab. That said, it seems like someone may have already been here, as there's blood smeared on one of the terminal's keyboards. Also, anyone taking a stroll by the fountain this morning may notice something floating in the water: a boy's severed foot. — This post is for the first day as defined in the schedule. Judy, during the trial, the majority vote was for "abstain", yes? Was it a "bug" that resulted in the death of Diva?

Yes, it was. Because of the vote for abstain, the resulting guilty party was randomized from the remaining voting options. Bigby avoided being chosen by little more than a coin toss.

That isn't "abstaining". That's hardly anything like abstaining, Judy.

Why was such an option even put in the first place if it would just result in someone dying anyways?

I do not know. I am not the one that wrote the program.

We didn't punish who needed to be punished. This is no system of justice, Judy. It's a farce of one.

[ he's pretty much gone ahead and assumed that "abstain" is not the desirable answer by the staff, or whoever else is running this little show. so naturally, his inquiry has to do with something else about the voting system. ]

if the votes end up tied for two people, what happens? is one just randomly picked to die?

Because of the abstain vote, the guilty party was chosen by randomizing the other results. Diva was unlucky, unfortunately.

No. Both would be executed.

It is not. The fountain's water supply is entirely separate from the drinking water, as it is non-potable.

[So yeah, Leo's still kind of upset about the trial. Even if the result had been randomized, he can't help feeling like he had some part to play in Diva's death, and he isn't too pleased at the lack of assistance they got from Judy. Still, he's not an idiot. He knows better than to alienate the one source of information they might have. (This is why Elliot isn't allowed to do the talking.)]

I was hoping you could answer a question for me, about our community. It's something that wasn't listed on our profiles, but that's understandable. [He pauses; even though he hasn't met anyone from his country, discretion still seems like the best option.] Are we Contractors?

I'm afraid you'll have to clarify, Leo. What do you mean by contractor?

[Leo purses his lips, considering his words carefully.]

Where I'm from, there are a few people who have dealing with certain parts of the world that regular people don't know about. They have partnerships with certain creatures from that part of the world. [Elliot may not be any concern of Pandora's right now, far too young to become a Contractor himself, but neither he nor Leo are completely out of the loop.] I was wondering if, perhaps, we'd also formed partnerships like that.

[From the sound of what Gilbert went through to get Raven, it would be almost impossible to forget something like that. But then, it would be almost impossible to forget "agreeing" to come to a place like this, and yet...]

Because no one I've spoken to has ever heard of my country, and I've never heard of any of theirs. I thought something else might be the link between us all.
