DAY THREE
![]() Complex Population: 33 It's 8AM, and you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always. There's breakfast avaliable in the cafeteria if you want it, as well as meals from 11AM-12PM and 7PM-8PM, but otherwise? The day is yours. Take your time to explore the complex, relax, and enjoy each others' company, as who knows what the next day has in store? Though as you explore, you may notice that there's a new door unlocked and a new place for you to spend the day. There's a workshop and tinkering lab that you can now access. It includes everything from power tools to more terminals (so no need to crowd around the commissary terminal to chat with Judy anymore). As tempting as all these tools may be, they cannot be removed from the lab. Only completed projects may be taken out of the lab. That said, it seems like someone may have already been here, as there's blood smeared on one of the terminal's keyboards. Also, anyone taking a stroll by the fountain this morning may notice something floating in the water: a boy's severed foot. This post is for the first day as defined in the schedule. This post is for general mingling and CR buidling, and will not include significant plot interaction. ic rulebook character statuses character profiles private conversations graveyard |

[She responds a little flatly, though she can tell that it's obviously a joke. For a moment she pauses, considering, and then goes on.]
For me, "sadness" is the canned meat that tastes like the cow it came from has been dead for over half a century. "Despair" on the other hand is the spinach, which I suspect has some rad exposure.

Man, that is two-for-two on super terrible options so... Y'know, okay, question here before I submit my guess. Rad, like radiation, like, grow a third of something you shouldn't have a third of? Or within enough that we're just talking standard space radiation, because totally different.
[ He picks up a can of off-brand spam and shakes his head. ]
...Though, I dunno. Canned meat is kinda always bad, but fifty year old meat, that's a big yikes.

[This place strikes her as quite sterile actually. Which makes the horrifying murder all the worse.]
This place doesn't have good food period, especially in the meat department, but it's what we got. Rather this than starve, right?
[Though then that just reminds her of a conversation she had with Charles, about how he didn't want to eat food that didn't agree with his tastebuds. The thought makes her visibly deflate, small smile turning back to a frown.]

Oh- Yeah, I've heard radiation poisoning is a bitch. Actually uh... Had some people working under me get it when we had some shielding failures, but-- Ehhh, whatever, that's boring. [ He shrugs a bit sheepishly, since talking about workplace accidents and how he'd managed them isn't exactly the thrilling conversation topic. In fact, the cans in front of them are probably more interesting than that... ]
More seriously I guess, how's the stock look? Starving actually a concern here?
no subject
The question on the stock does get her back on track though, her eyes going back to Jack and then to the cans.]
We'll be fine, from the looks of it. So long as we don't overeat... Judy told me that they replenish the stock from their own resources, but that supply is finite as well. We need to be careful about our intake, and be fair to everyone.

Huh... Good to know. I'll- Well, I'll at least take it easy on the snacking knowing that.
[ But now that he's noticed it... He can't just ignore it. He does pause awkwardly, since it's probably a bit odd to ask a stranger, but, hey. He figures none of them are going to be strangers that much longer, all things considered here. ]
Hey, uh- You doin' okay?
no subject
Not really. That boy who died, he was assigned to the same apartment room as me. So yeah.
[It hasn't been all that great waking up to only four people, no matter how much more room there is.]
I guess I just didn't expect something like this to happen so soon. Hostages don't usually have to fear for their life for the first few days. Though the circumstance is different since that other woman was involved apparently.

[ There's understanding in his voice, even if he's stressing that syllable a lot. Jack crosses his arms as his expression does at least shift to be sympathetic. It might be genuine, or it might be because he knows what he should show facing words like that. The difference wouldn't be clear even to him. ]
Yeah, it's... Well, terrible seems underwhelming? Worries me if they'd start out with a kid, y'know? Since, uh, there's a lot of them. Iiiin my opinion, anyways, but I realize that makes me sound like an old fart since they're teenagers. Ugh.
[ He reminded himself that he's old, which is the Worst? Jack shakes his head to dismiss that thought, though. He pauses, uncertain of what to say, but ends up just asking idly: ]
Why, though? I mean-- Why're people dying, not why're you upset, since, uh, yeah, obvious. It's not gonna make things better, I know. But if there's a reason, I dunno.

[SHRUG that's basically the life of anyone out in the wasteland. Brotherhood or not, you need to learn how to use a gun if you intend to live long.]
I guess I'm just wondering what her involvement was, and why she would kill him? Was she put up to it? Did she have some motive that we'll never know? I wouldn't be surprised if the people running this facility killed him, but if it really was her...then why?
We shouldn't be against each other. It's wrong.
