DAY THREE

DAY 3 Complex Population: 33 It's 8AM, and you wake from that deep, dreamless sleep that enforces curfew as always. There's breakfast avaliable in the cafeteria if you want it, as well as meals from 11AM-12PM and 7PM-8PM, but otherwise? The day is yours. Take your time to explore the complex, relax, and enjoy each others' company, as who knows what the next day has in store? Though as you explore, you may notice that there's a new door unlocked and a new place for you to spend the day. There's a workshop and tinkering lab that you can now access. It includes everything from power tools to more terminals (so no need to crowd around the commissary terminal to chat with Judy anymore). As tempting as all these tools may be, they cannot be removed from the lab. Only completed projects may be taken out of the lab. That said, it seems like someone may have already been here, as there's blood smeared on one of the terminal's keyboards. Also, anyone taking a stroll by the fountain this morning may notice something floating in the water: a boy's severed foot. — This post is for the first day as defined in the schedule. [A little nod! Does he really see?? KIND OF NOT but that's okay. If this guy is trying to recreate something, he's probably just having trouble remembering the exact details.]

Do you... have any sort of idea what sort of thing it is that you're missing, then? Even a little clue?

That isn't "abstaining". That's hardly anything like abstaining, Judy.

Why was such an option even put in the first place if it would just result in someone dying anyways?

[ He gets it, honestly... He didn't believe in magic or anything until he saw it with his own eyes. So he looks patient and sympathetic. ]

You think? Some things are impossible but time travel is a real scientific possibility. Maybe not for us, but have you seen this place? [ He gestures around the room. ] You can build your own personal robots.

[ At the question, he goes back to working on his own personal robot. ] Oh, well, it means I know things about magic and psychic powers. [ He should have expected that answer. ] ... It comes from looking into an ancient king. Some people say he's magic. I had to turn to psychics to find more information. Nothing as crazy as some of the people here, but thinking magic is real isn't all that strange.

[ she catches the look, and responds with a quirk of her brows. is something wrong? did he not want her to hand him the item? she doesn't know, but he doesn't look like he wants to talk about it. ]

That's brilliant. [ her arms are folded, and she can't help it - lara gazes down at the machine he's tinkering with, something like pride reflecting in her eyes. he's a good kid. he's got a good future ahead of him. gotta keep it that way. ]

Not yet, no. So far the only way I've seen a robot is... [ well. ] The one you're working on now. Ancient civilizations had their ways, though, and their technology, it could be even more advanced than we know. Stranger things... I've encountered far stranger.

[ but she's smiling. ] You could go far with this kind of thing. Are you planning to study in technology?

I do not know. I am not the one that wrote the program.

[ Then, a moment later: ]

I am sorry, Alfendi.

We didn't punish who needed to be punished. This is no system of justice, Judy. It's a farce of one.

Again with that nonsense? You're not the first person who's told me that. I don't know what's happening to me! I keep waking up randomly in different places with no memory of what the hell is going on, so I don't know why everyone keeps saying about how "conscious" I am when I'm not!

[He clutches his head, clenching his jaw like that will prevent him from just boiling over.]

[she's fairly sure she knows the answer, given the fact that they're all forced to sleep, but it's a common courtesy to ask all the same.]

[ in both knowing zilch about chemistry and in a lack of experience when it comes to building little birdcages and robots with power tools.

and then, dazai looks thoughtful for a minute, tapping at his chin curiously. ]

Not even enough time for something like this? I can't imagine something that would eat up so much of your time — a toiling job, an addicting hobby, or something else entirely?

[Well, Guy is both a nerd and a manservant, so this is perfectly fine. He's totally fascinated by all the technology he finds, anyway]

This is incredible. I've never seen a machine like this built from scratch.

[ after picking his ear to check, he's even going to hold up his finger to prove his point... which isn't necessary (and really gross, actually?) but, well. though, even if alfendi had been one second away from letting dazai have it, he would have remained as unflinching and as smiling as ever. ]

[ and then dazai pauses, because he realizes that he doesn't know his name yet. ]

[ah... just by the way he's talking, it's fairly obvious he doesn't know how to operate these tools adequately. she happens to be in the room as he investigates them, and so she speaks up.]

[ steve can't really cook. but he's getting really tired of living off of cereal and macarani and cheese, so he's decided to venture in there in search of something else - hopefully, something simple enough that he can make it. Pancakes?

at least it will give him something else to think about. He's not expecting to see someone else in there when he walks in, though. ]

You didn't find any frozen pizza or anything, did you? I could really go for that.

[Ohhhhhhhhhhh boy that is not something he's going to abide by easily. He actually stands up, his grip around the pen in his hands so tight that his knuckles are almost white.]

ALFENDI! It's Alfendi Layton, damn you, get it right before I stuff this pen down your throat!

It's my job, mostly. I'm a detective in my town, and there's always work to be done. There's also this one case that has taken my attention for months already. It's my priority.

[At the cost of his relationship with his daughter, but he isn't exactly going to say that. He also doesn't seem that willing to go into details as to that important case he's working on]

It's also because of my job that I doubt I'd come here. I have a lot to do, I should be working on that, not supposedly accepting to rest for two months.

Among this mess? There's not much you can try and salvage. It'll take a few days of sorting and praying for it to be here.

[ By then? Who knows who would be dead. ]

I have some beef stew in the kitchen, unless someone took it. You're welcome to have some later. [ It was a tiny gesture. She... knows herself that that weight was a heavy one. ] If you want, I mean.

I dunno about that. You might actually be able to salvage some of the stuff in this place. [Hello Guy. Please ignore Luke who sounds a little like death warmed over. He looks a little more pleasant than the last time they spoke, if you can ignore the swelling and bruising of his nose and under his eyes because of the realignment of his nose.

In other words Luke sure is fine.]

[ so among all of the responsible adults telling mitsutada to not toy with the power tool... here is the most irresponsible adult on the entire planet trying to do away with all of that. dazai's going to look on in awe as the drill comes to life, hands cupping his cheeks, enabling mitsutada further. ]

I wonder what it does, too! Especially if you set it to the highest setting possible.

[seriously, this guy has a few screws loose..... Guy's first thought isn't split personalities, but replicas, as that's a Thing in Tales of the Abyss. But he's backing off to give Alfendi some space, still with his eyebrows raised]

[He keeps his hands raised as a kind of placating gesture]

Yeah, we met a few days ago, trying to figure out this place together. You don't remember any of that-- or me? I'm Guy.

[There's a disgruntled noise when Adam pulls on his face and he lightly smacks at him with the cards in his hand. Regardless he likes the idea of Lara joining them and he makes room by scooting further on the sofa, curling his legs under him and splaying himself further across Adam's lap instead. Most other people would have needed to grab a chair so congratulations.]

I can't believe you're taking his side of things. And I'm not being a baby. [He tries very hard to sound offended, but that's not working out too well.] I'll be fine. I'm just not used to being sick. [He keeps half of his attention on Lara and the other half on Adam, not sure which one's more interesting at the moment. They both fascinate him for different reasons.] You can't just leave a sentence like that and not give us examples, you know. [Adam, back him up on this.]

Everything has been pretty hard on me too, as unbelievable of a person as I am. [Though, adapting to a situation is something that Mitsudada does best! Even with the last unfortunate event, things should be getting back on track soon.

I think we're all sort of stuck in a hard place, but that also means we can rely on each other for support. [Except, y'know, the murderers.] We'll figure everything out with time.

Oh, and you shouldn't smoke in here! It's bad for your health. [Since Mitsutada got that Dad Talk, it's time to give Dojima the Mom Talk.]

[Anyone entering the community kitchen in hopes of preparing something edible will find Angel standing in front of the stove, holding an opened can of luncheon meat in her hand and staring at it like it'll offer her all the secrets of the universe. She seems a little bothered by something (or multiple somethings), but that sure doesn't stop her from... mumbling to the can, apparently.]

... It can't be that hard, can it?

[Someone should intervene before she burns down the kitchen. Be the hero this complex needs.]

technology lab — afternoon:

[And later in the afternoon, she's snooping around the technology lab to see what new stuff they have access to. She doesn't seem too interested in the woodworking materials, but catch her around the new terminals and the basic robot building kits? And she'll seem pretty darn pleased. Looks like the soulbonder is in her zone.]
