I don't know how much we can rely on the case from last time. Certainly, some information carries over, but we should try our best to solve this case as well. Though this is hardly an actual "murder case" as one would consider in the traditional, legal sense. I have yet to see a proper CSI: Complex team.
As for technology... I don't know. If the person were staff, I would think it possible for someone from any era to be taught about technology without us knowing, correct? As for what they would do with them... hm. Tracking equipment? An attempt to triangulate our location? I'm not entirely sure, but it's possible. A lot of things are possible.
